Odlanier Solis has to be right up there. After escaping the life of Cuban hell where living the highlife was considered digging up turnips all day for the regime, the capitalist life style was just too much for Solis. He just couldn't get enough of it's greatness which rewards the best. Which saw him love it soooo much that he became a gluttonous fat mess that could barely throw a punch. Such a waste.
Oh and it's early yet. But Tyson Fury has to be up there for me. I thought it was great when he beat Waldo. This is going to be great, with a young champ that keeps telling us how he only wants to fight the best and legacy means everything and money is second. Fast forward a decade later and he's fought one man of note.... We've had to put up with crap like fighting fellas from WWF, Chisora 3 and now some nobody from MMA. What next? A special match against the Micthell brother's from Eastenders.
Nicholas Walters, what he did was EXTREMELLY WEIRD. I had never seen something like that. He said no to his own career, after quitting in the weirdest circumstances (how much punishment had he received when he quitted? 2 jabs? ridiculous). He was chosen to be way better than what he really was imho. I have always thought that he bet against himself and quitted boxing as a vengeance against his promoter.
He was over confident on his speed alone but didn't ever come across as having a high IQ at any time which was one of his big downfalls that gets overlooked by casual viewers, He also didn't train consistently or ever try coming back up from the Garcia KO loss to one up him self.
As regards to 'not living in the Gym' and not taking their career seriously. Along with not fully utilising their born with natural talents, then BJ Saunders springs to mind here as a classic example.
114 punches Lomachenko landed on Walters actually!! Walters realised he was out of his depth and there was no chance he could win against this prime master Ukrainian boxer. Walters got scared shitless, he was getting beat up, and didn't want to go out any more embarrasingly. He purely outclassed as simple as that. He tried his best it just wasn't good enough. There's levels to boxing. Quotes after the fight : “Walters is a good fighter, he’s really strong but I think he just stood there too much, which made it really easy for me,” said Lomachenko Walters said ''He caught me with great shots at the end of the seventh round and we barely made it though the seventh round so our team of people decided that they're gonna stop the fight. he's a very good fighter, I learned a lot from fighting him and it was seven rounds of beautiful boxing until my corner decided to end it''
Walters received next to no punishment, and he was fresh as water when he quitted. What did you expect walters to say? "I quitted because I bet against myself and I wanted to **** Arum because he has been ****ing me the last 2 years?" You can dress it as you want to, but the truth is that walters' behavior is one of the weirdest behaviors that I can remember. Ffs, it is so clear that he was not hurt at all This content is protected Plus I just realized, in the last round he spent the whole round going into short distance and not throwing, like asking for a punch hard enough to take a dive... that never happened. Ridiculous. Not to mention that there is no way to recognize walters in this fight. His behavior was weird as ****.
@chacal your great black hope got completely outclassed from start to finish just like Rigondeaux did by a technical master in his prime. Accept it and move on. You're a ****** if you really think Walters didn't try to win this fight. Exceptional fighters make very good fighters look look less than average. Loma took the heart right outta this guy.. he surpassed him in everything.
Yes, that explains why walters never fought again (his latest fight does not count, that's a joke after 8 years of being retired). You never get tired of creating new accounts? grow some balls and stalk me with your real account dude. You are boring.
