Matthew Franklin Saad Muhammad vs Floyd Patterson

First off, we have to give Floyd Patterson props because of his hand speed and combos, not to mention that left hook, very snappy. But to Matthew Saad Muhammad's credit, he could soak up punishment and work an opponent over late in the fight, good stamina. I think Patterson gets off to a quick start, poking holes in Saad's defense. But Saad Muhammad starts to go downstairs on Patterson, weakening his stamina, forcing him into exchanges in the corners of the ring, I will go on a limb here, Patterson is a really good champion but Saad Muhammad can hit very hard, wear down an opponent, I will go Saad Muhammad late by TKO.

Really, Matt could win. He and Floyd are both fairly close in weight actually.

Believe it or not, when Moore and Patterson fought, Moore outweighed Patterson by 6 lbs.

 

Cause Floyd could deal with Moore, Quarry, Bonavena, Maxim etc...i favor him clearly over MSH. He was a good Boxer, but Floyd was special...especially considering his weight and size. Young Floyd beat the great Archie Moore that night...he also beat Tommy Jackson before (Strong guy with similar size). Past prime Floyd won vs prime Bonavena too and had 2 very competitive fights vs prime Quarry. So i don't see somebody wearing him down. No weakness vs pressure fighters or body punchers at all. He also beat Durelle and was the better fighter vs Maxim before the title fight with Archie.

 

I think Saad absorbs an early barrage and stops Floyd between 8 and 13. Saad regularly had to boil down to 175, so I don't think 185-190 wouldn't be an issue. Floyd naturally was this size tops. Saad by brutal KO.

 

Either can stop the other but I favor Patterson by late rds tko after suffering sum scary moment n knockdowns. Guaranteed FOTY candidate. Detloff wrote a MSM book that came out this yr I'll pick up when I can. Very entertaining fighter but Patterson had sum great fights too.

Patterson by stoppage too fast and hits too hard, I think Muhammad may be able to floor Patterson early. But Patterson's extra class will show in the 2nd half of the fight and he gets the TKO.

I'm a big fan of both fighters BTW but I make Patterson a pretty big favourite hes a class above Muhammad IMO.

Floyd, easily. He’s one of those guys that gets underrated here, IMO at least subconsciously because of the fold ups against Liston.

 

Saad has no chance here, Floyd is a better boxer , hits harder and has a better defense.

 

The only chink in Floyd Patterson's armor is that he hit the canvas against lesser competition with the exception of Sonny Liston and Muhammad Ali, first fight in Nov 1965, Patterson was decked by Roy Cut N Shoot Harris, Pete No Pro Fight Rademacher, and Ingo with his Bingo.
