Magnificent Monday Matchup- Floyd Patterson Circa 1956 V George Foreman Circa 1994

I do not think Floyd Patterson can beat any version of George Foreman. For various rather obvious reasons, that is my opinion.

 

I can see prime Patterson leading old foreman on points but at some point George is going to catch him I think.

 

The "strength and power" difference is really huge, but so is the "speed" one. I think floyd is fast enough to get under Foreman's jab, to hit him with fast punches and run back to the outside before the much bigger man hits him back.

As long as he doesn't get caught, i think patterson handily wins this one by decision.

Not to mention that 1994 foreman was kinda worse than the one holyfield fought in 1991, so it would be harder for george to overcome the odds like he actually did in the moorer fight.

 

Floyd embarrasses him. Old George still packed a punch. Old George was not Sonny Liston.

 

At some point, George will nail Floyd hard.

 

GTFOH.... why you hating on Floyd by putting him in the ring with George. Patterson will wish it was Liston in there; George puts him into the stratosphere. Almost immediately.

Young George takes out Patterson like Liston did.

Old George is a different story. He certainly could connect with a wallop but IMO he'd have trouble even finding young, prime Patterson.

And Patterson gets total disrespect here, again IMO because of the two Liston fights. I think the guy is an ATG but those two nights where he mentally shouldn't have been in the ring seem to have soiled his reputation forever in some eyes. He was not a jabroni.

 

Very dangerous fight for both guys. Patterson's skill and blinding hand speed would be a huge problem for the slower old Foreman with diminished reflexes. I could see Patterson taking a decision with hit and run tactics as long as he doesn't just stand in front of him or attempts to fight on the inside. However, even a glancing blow from Foreman is going to damage the very small and not so durable Patterson. His peak a boo, front footed style and shorter reach means he'll occasionally need to press the action and get closer. It would be like running through a mine field. Foreman has so many traps: battering jab, subtle feints leading to uppercuts, walking guys into shots to the temple, not to mention the painful body shots.

I wouldn't bet one cent on this fight because there's so many ways it could go, but gun to my head the best version of Patterson should be able to win. He's significantly more skilled than Morrison and Alex Stewart who Foreman went life and death with and had a hard time dealing with their speed and movement. Those two weren't very durable either and Foreman hurt them several times but was just too slow to really follow up and make sure they didn't recover. I suspect the very quick and nimble Patterson may be able to pull it off even if he has to peel himself off the canvas once or twice and take a split decision if it boils down to it. It'd be a very exciting nail biter.

 

If Floyd brought a fake beard and sunglasses as a disguise when he faced Sonny, he’s bring a plastic surgeon, makeup artist and forger to work up papers including fake passport to create a new identity before fighting any version of Big George.

Patterson would be petrified. And rightfully so.

 

This "Floyd loses to every puncher who ever lived" is bull****. Obviously 73-74 Foreman annihilates even the best Patterson, but '94 Foreman was NOT 73-74 Foreman.

I don't think Patterson would be as scared of a mid 40s Obese priest as he was when against Sonny ****ing Liston.

Liston was also much quicker than even a prime Foreman, let alone old Foreman who's punches could be timed with a sundial. Patterson's probably gonna hit the canvas but he'll get back up and puff up Foreman's face with his blazingly fast hands, and TKO him around 10 imo.

 

people really act like Liston one punch KO'd patterson twice. how many times did the man get up? Old foreman didn't smear plenty of guys and lost on the cards or won some very close decisions.

that said, the guy was a super middleweight. but not at all a foregone conclusion that Foreman knocks him out.

 

I highly doubt he’d be scared of a mid-40s morbidly obese priest.
