What makes a fight classic?

    Change of momentum? Knockdowns? Pace and intensity? Underdog upset? Technical skill?

    Lots of talk about 'classic' fights, but no clear definition.

    Help me out.

    I would say pace and intensity in the mix with whats at stake.

    I'd say it's the kind of fight that you can add to yoru library and watch over and over and enjoy it every time.

    I think a classic fight has ebbs and flow, tension, and a dramatic conclusion, which doesn't have to be a knockout.

    I have to say that the fight must have major meaning. What I mean is that I view Morales-Barrera I in higher regard thank Gatti-Ward (although this fight was definitely a classic) because there was more on the line. Which is probably why I'm rating Margarito-Cotto above Vasquez-Marquez III as FOTY. Also, all the things the TS stated are all factors too.

    How was more on the line in Cotto-Margarito than in Marquez-Vasquez? At least in the latter fight, both guys were top 10 P4P, and the fight was for the lineal title and the Ring title (as well as an ABC belt). Cotto-Margarito was just for an ABC belt.

    Back and forth action. Unexpected drama and surprises. Displays of studied technique. All of these elements must blend together to make something special.

    i think the fighters have to be in their primes - it's not classic if they're past it.
