I think after Bud making history, there is a case to say he has at least caught up to Mayweather. What are your thoughts?
Bud’s got a long way to go before his legacy passes up Mayweather’s. And at this stage it might never happen. Mayweather has claim to lineage in four weight classes. Belts in five weight classes. A 50-0 record. 26 world title fight wins. A ton of victories over former and current world champs. A handful of wins over guys who are either in the hall of fame or most likely WiLL be at some point. It’s really not even close
I know legacy is subjective and most people will choose mayweather but, as a purist, I prefer crawford. THIS is not based on floyds stellar marketing. Purely boxing. Mayweather got a gift from 1st castillo fight, which he kind of lost at 135 He had a defensive first style. Shane Mostly and DelaGoya and pac were not in their primes, although a case to be made he would have won anyway. The move up to 152, was not against a real middleweight as there was a catchweight. What mayweather is missing is that big prime vs prime win Crawford is a three division champ and truly undefeated, no controversial wins. No catchweights, undisputed at 2 weight classes and just got that great prime vs prime win versus an undefeated fighter. He has done it all with skills and no marketing. Crawford just doesnt have as many big names but can convincingly past mayweather if he beats charlo and takes on Boots
We're going through that phase where after a fighter gets a great win they suddenly become the second coming for around a week. Yes Crawford got a great win but his overall resume does not compete with Mayweather's.
Beating Spence was a good win but it wasn’t a “ prime vs prime “ scenario. Bud is 35 and Spence was 33. And Spence had only fought once in three years and sustained a lot of injuries from a car wreck a few years ago.
I wouldent go as far as comparing Bud to Floyd but Bud being the first to be undusputed champ in two wight divisions is still pretty impressive.
Crawford is more exciting at WW but I think we in general forget how Mayweather was pre WW. Yes ppl bring up Corrales win but Crawford has not touched Floyd at SFW to LW yet if we bein honest. I'm talking Genero Hernandez to Judah fights Floyd was a boxer-puncher picking up legacy defining wins along the way. Say what u want about him being a spoiler afterwards which I can't deny but it worked for him even if he stunk it up vs Pacquiao. Tbf, Floyd had hand issues but his low punch output always frustrated me when he clearly outmatched his opponents. This is subjective but just my assessment. Crawford is on the right path and honestly I just don't see any wins outside of Canelo that can continue to b legacy shaping but as long as he's facing the best he can.
I can tell ppl either haven't truly studied Floyd or let their bias get in the way. He frustrates tf outta me post JWW most of his fights just are low punch output affairs afterwards and I think he's a sh1tty person but that doesn't mean he ain't a ATG.
Not even close. It's very impressive Crawford became undisputed twice in this era with so much ducking and split titles, but it's nowhere near the sheer quantity of Floyd's very extensive resume. The reality is Crawford squandered much of his career not fighting as many guys as he could have. Part of it was Bob Arum's fault and part of it was his own. However, if Crawford can do it again at 154 and beats some of the big names there, maybe he'll have an argument. If he can get more quality names on his record he'll have an advantage since Floyd didn't beat many elite A class guys in their primes.
Lemme preface this by saying I like both Spence and Crawford, they're two of my favorite fighters period........ You're an absolute goofball. Floyd's win over Genaro Hernandez alone is better than any win on Crawford's resume (Spence included) and then his win over Chico Corrales was even better than the Hernandez win. I want some of you to just leave the forum permanently............
Twice. He beat Danny Garcia and Ugas (no tune ups). He wasn’t necessarily more in his prime than Canelo against Mayweather though.
The promotional situation and Crawfords resulting lack of opposition the last 5 years was an absolute disgrace. I havent seen a fighter get a chance for a defining win so late in his career except for Bernard Hopkins whos breakout came at 36 years old vs Tito. We might NEVER find out just how great crawford was.
