Serious Question: Would Crawford had defeated Leonard at 147?

Let's take the nostalgia and the emotions out of the equation. Leonard was great but he struggled against lesser skilled fighters than Crawford (Duran, Hearns, Benietez, and Hagler). Leonard has had a lot of close fights while Crawford has always won in dominating fashion. I honestly think Crawford would beat Leonard. Thoughts?

While your question is seriously flawed, I do think Bud could beat Ray. If it were a best of ten type thing I could see Crawford winning three of them.

I think Duran and Hearns were "Physical Specimens" but Crawford is much more skilled than the other two and Benitez was a great defensive fighter but that's it. He didn't have the speed, power, or athleticism that Crawford has.

All those fighters were very highly skilled and all of them greats and all do certain things better than Crawford.

As for Crawford beating Leonard, he hasn't done enough to pick him over Leonard. Leonard is far superior to Spence, he's also faster, more agile and more explosive than Crawford. Leonard fought in a welterweight era that was far, far deeper than the current era. Benitez I think is better than Spence and he's the weakest of the 3 welters you mentioned.

However, he wasn’t more skilled than all of the guys that you’ve mentioned.

Yes, he didn’t struggle in some fights like Leonard did. But then he never fought the same calibre of guys that Leonard did, and that includes last night’s Spence.

Regarding a H2H fight against Leonard, he’d have had a genuine shot at beating Ray. But I think that Ray’s speed would have given him the edge.

If Terrence had fought in the 70’s and 80’s, back in the days of same day weigh-ins, he’d have been fighting at JMW-MW.
