First of all, I want to say that this is only a theory, the foundations of which will probably never be verified. As you know Spence had a terrible accident right after his fight against Porter: This content is protected He will post "No broken bones" on Instagram and officially we will just hear about broken teeth. That said, would it be possible that he had more damage and in particular to the jaw and that nothing was known about it? My theory is that Spence and his team may be aware that his professional career is on the grill and that he will only be able to hide his scars for a few fights. Spence will return a little over a year later against Danny Garcia then in pre-retirement and will win easily. Then there is the imbroglio with Pacquiao and sixteen months after Garcia, he faces Ugas. One may find it bizarre that he was rocked by a boxer who has 37.5% knockouts and failed to hit Pacquiao hard. This content is protected At the beginning of the year, a fight against Keith Thurman at 154 pounds is expected since Spence is visibly having more and more difficulty making the 147. At the beginning of the year, a fight against Keith Thurman at 154 pounds is expected since Spence is visibly having more and more difficulty in making the 147. As for Benavidez vs Uztacegui, there is very bad feedback from fans which constrains PBC and Spence from another plane. After all, if Spence only has two or three fights left, might as well pay off. Thus finally comes the superfight against Crawford. Of course Spence and PBC are surely aware that they are going to massacre but this is the last opportunity to produce a lot of money with Spence. Happen what happens and Spence maintains that he wants the rematch... Maybe because it's the fight that will pay him the most before he retires?
Your post is a bit jumbled, but are you saying that the car accident was even worse than we thought and Spence’s handlers are trying to get him the biggest money fights before his body falls apart? Well, I’d agree with that. I think he’s at a very vulnerable spot purely because of circumstances. His style is not portable for higher weights because he’s not a big enough puncher. He’s a well conditioned pressure fighter without tight enough defense. Moving up in weight means he fights bigger men AND in heavyweight 10 oz gloves. His power is going to be much reduced at 154 against much bigger men. for Spence, he’s gotta get serious about his nutrition. He blows up too much in between fights, and it makes his cuts too difficult. He’s gotta eat insane clean. Lose the alchohol. Focus on continuing to make 147 where he can fight in 8 oz gloves. Here is where he can cash out and not be as damaged. There are still big money fights to be made. And he’s gotta stay healthy. Fighting at least twice a year. 1. Comeback fight against a top 15 welter in early 2024. Maybe Cisshoko to check how Spence’s feeling. If he looks good and he’s disciplined about the weight, then you move on. 2. A big headline fight against Keith Thurman late summer 2024. Thurman’s power is overrated at the top of 147. He’s been hurt to the body and head. He’s still a name to be had. depending on how Bud handles his belts, this could be for a vacant title 3. Teofimo Lopez late 2024 / early 2025. Lopez was already a big lightweight and the chance at a big payday at 147 against an aging Spence could be very enticing for his handlers. This is a solidly PPV fight. 4. Bud Crawford rematch mid 2025 at 154. Could be the last fight for both. Step up to 154, likely with a belt on the line, and cash out in a mega PPV fight. Walk into the sunset with your money.
Spence has like 29 more days to activate his rematch clause with Crawford. And he looked like death on Saturday. The boy won't make 147 ever again.
I agree with you 100%. Don't you guys find it funny that the doctor just randomly came in the ring to examine Spence? It's almost like they knew he was compromised before the fight.
He's definitely not the same fighter prior to the crash. But all credit to Spence to continue on with his boxing career when most people would have just retired. Getting thrown from your car 40 feet while speeding like a madman and live to tell about it, and better yet become unified champion in 3 different organizations, showed his testicular fortitude. I've heard of people falling 20 feet out of a tree and dying, Spence defied the odds.
Because he was off for over a year and blew up in weight. With discipline, he can stay around 160 year round and cut the weight in shorter camps. You look at guys who have stuck around 147 for years. Guys like Porter who were fighting at 154+ and dropped down to 147 mid career and continued to make it. He can do it. He’s not abnormally tall or densely muscled.
Spence’s guarantees have not been huge. 3.0M for Danny Garcia 1.5M for Ugas 2M for Porter 3M for Mikey Garcia He likely made multiples of all those guarantees in the Crawford fight alone. He talked about the big money all throughout this build up. These paydays matter to him
I was surprised more wasn’t made of that. It’s strange that the doctor came into the ring so early. Someone on here said it was the promoters buying him some time.
Pretty strange accident Spence had, waiting for over 3.5 years to show It’s effects. Before the accident(which was a horrible one, don’t mean to undermine it at all), Spence had the toughest fight of his career before last weekend against Porter. Then he suffers from the accident, thankfully recovers and faces DSG who was never close to being elite at 147 but was the same level opponent he was facing before the accident. He beats Garcia easily in one of his better performances in more decisive manner than the likes of Thurman and Porter did. After that he faces Ugas who retired ancient Pac and should’ve probably had a victory over Porter. Aside from one scary moment where he got hurt in a moment of distraction, he wins rather comfortably to claim his 3rd belt. After all that, for the first time he faces an elite opponent in top form, gets destroyed. Suddenly It’s because of the accident he recovered from over 3 years ago. Bud suffered a bullet to the head 15 years ago and recovered. Should it be used as an excuse for every bad moment of his career? Should people be saying that he’d destroy Spence in 1 if it weren’t for the gun shot? Yeah, Crawford had a little more in the tank. Not because of Spence’s accident, but because unlike Spence, he lived like an athlete by always training and staying in shape, eating well and sleeping well. Spence got destroyed, abused, annihilated and outclassed because he was up against a superior fighter. Entire PBC world went out of their way to avoid this fight(even going as far as to pretend that WBO doesn’t exist) for half a decade. They knew Spence isn’t and never was on Bud’s level.
