Thompson's was known around the UK for being savage punching, baiting people by pretending he was hurt and being extremely dangerous when actually hurt. It was also hard to finish him just based on him having really good powers of recovery and stamina, as well as being a hearty *******. Going in for the finish was often a fatal mistake, as David Haye found out.

The Watson incident obviously affected Chris' style and career, but I think in this specific instance, it's a bit of both.

Kalambay's far more skilled than Eubank, so how's he the right guy to win the fight? A slight puncher's chance is all he has.

 

Kalambay would smoothly outbox Eubank for virtually all the 12 rounds....then that MC bloke with the fuzzy hairdo would come on to announce Eubank had won a UD.

 

Quite feasible. Re your new avatar - the best fight at that time would have been Jimmy Young v Tony Blackburn. They all ducked Tony. His rapier like wet jokes easily matched Larry Holmes' jab.

I used to like Fluff's Pick of the Pops in the 1980s (i know it was an older show but it came back for a bit). Essential primary schooldays listening for me, same with the chart show on a Sunday (5pm-7pm) followed by Annie Nightingale (I was a bit young for Peel then, so it was Annie that introduced me to the 'indie' scene really). Good days.

 

Oh yes! The golden era of Radio One was definitely sixties,seventies and eighties. I loved Pick of the Pops. Met Annie once - lovely woman.

 

F*ck it I went with Chris on points. He was a totally unique fighter, stone chin, hard punch and unorthodox technique. Eubank is hugely underrated because he became this weird semi celebrity and his quirky personality. But he beat a series of world class fighters, you would have to be hugely biased not to consider Benn, Watson and Rocchigiani excellent wins.

I don't think he helped himself at all as far as winning over the fight fans, but I also don't feel there was a huge queue of people desperate to fight him as he would be a very high risk and low gain type of fight.

He was also very hot and cold, if he wasn't interested or didn't respect his opponent then he could look terrible, see Dan Sherry and Dan Schommer fights. Based on his worse showing then Sumbu boxes rings round him. But a motivated Eubank could surprise anyone. No-one who watched the second Watson fight would underestimate his guts, courage and determination when firing on all cylinders.
