Simple question, how do I score a round when both fighters are down in a round? What are the scoring conventions for this if an even round or if one fighter wins it despite the knock down?
Assuming it's 1 x KD each and the 10-point must scoring system applies, the judge should award the round 10-9 to the boxer they felt won it.
Yes of course the clue is in the name! I am being dim lol. I actually scored a fight with a double knock down in a recent scoring I did, I think Bass - McAuley, which was level as 10-10, as I didn't know how to score it, so glad I got that right!
When a knockdown occurs there is an automatic point deduction so in this example an even round despite a double knockdown is 9-9
If both fighters are knocked down then whoever wins the round takes it 10-9 and if no-one is judged to have won it, it’s 10-10. The knockdowns effectively cancel each other out in this scenario.
This. Now correct me if I’m wrong, but a point deduction is scored differently — the round is scored as if there were no penalty, then the penalty is applied. So Fighter A wins the round 10-9, but is docked a point by the ref for, say, a low blow … that round would then be 9-9 on the scorecards. I think that’s right.
I'm sorry, but as Jel has pointed out, that is incorrect. As stated here - https://www.dazn.com/en-GLOBAL/news...h fighters score a,favour of the better boxer) - "if both fighters score a knockdown in the same round, the deductions cancel each other out (so it would probably still be a 10-9 round in favour of the better boxer)". The clue is in the term "10-point must" system.
For the Wolgast vs Mexican Joe Rivers LW title fight .. Both simultaneously floored each and getting counted out . Wolgast was helped up and awarded the fight ,, as the story goes .. It was a double KO
Yes, that’s right. As the ref is the one making the call to deduct a point that is a different circumstance to the regular scoring by the judge who is obliged to give one or both fighters 10 for a round.
Im sure this is the case. I was going off of the rules if they didnt contradict eachother but it appears that in this specific case the rules do contradict eachother.
Sort of. The round is still scored 10-9 and fighter A has a point deducted from their total score for the fight. From the Association of Boxing Commissions guide on how to factor a point deduction into scoring: "In such cases the judges shall mark their ballots in the normal manner. Then mark the number of points deducted from the offending boxer next to the actual score. Remember the referee is the only one who can deduct a point. Do not let the deduction influence your score".
Heres the simple version. It states that any knockdown 1 point is automatically deducted. It doesent say but if you get a knockdown you get your deducted point back and your opponent gets a point deducted.
