A What If - Salvador Sanchez?

I tend to agree with you. Did you know that Salvador Sanchez was attending college to become a Doctor? It is true.

 

I thought so and was recently trying to find some verification of it. Doesn't seem like Sanchez was planning to stay it the fight game much longer. Granted the best laid plans often mice and boxers often go astray but Sanchez might have made it stick.

 

That's amazing!!! I think he would have been a great doctor if he had the focus that he gave his career. Never heard about it previously.

 

Loved watching both fighters, but by the time Chavez started rolling
Sanchez probably would've been past his prime (Around 1984)
and may have suffered a loss to the underrated and overlooked
Esubio Pedroza which was the fight on the horizon everyone wanted
to see.
Fighters at the lighter weights usually burned out faster than fighters
that were heavier back in those days, don't know how effective Sanchez
would've been by 1984.

 

Hi. Not sure that's quite accurate. That was his goal but do not think he was already attending college at the time of his death. He had spoken of retiring in, I think 1983, and hopefully pursuing that. Did n't he drop out of school pretty young so he would not have been able to be in college.

I read that he was in a Mexican magazine written in Spanish, I read, speak and can write in Spanish.

 

In 1984 Salvador Sanchez would have been 25 years of age, Sanchez and I are the same age, both of us were born in 1959, except he was born in January, I was born on Feb 4th.

 

Very true, Sanchez was interviewed in a Mexican magazine. I also saw him interviewed on a Mexican channel.

 

Ok and perhaps you are correct. However, which college, studying which course and how? He left school at 15 or 16 I think he would have had a long road to it. Or do you mean further education courses to put him in a better position and enable him to apply? The references seem to be about his plans to study after retiring.

Yeah Freddy, I was shocked too when I read and saw Salvador Sanchez being interviewed on a Mexican channel. We are the same age as I posted, we both were 23 years old when he was tragically killed on August 12 1982 in that auto accident.

 

No, This older man that was waiting for his wife at the Dialysis Clinic iI attend 3 days a week for 3 and a half hours told me in Spanish that he believed Sugar Ray Leonard or Don King had something to do with Sanchez demise. Leonard told Sanchez on HBO that they were never going to fight, I just looked at that man and just smiled, another conspiracy theory. Just like another JFK theory.
