Can You Make A Case, For Wlad Klitschko Beating Lewis?

I could envision Wlad potentially catching A lackluster Lewis on one of his off nights (like Rahman). But, a focused Lewis would decimate Wlad.

 

prime for prime id definitely favour Lewis, but a Wlad win wouldn't be too crazy either. IMO Wlad is basically a weaker chinned and mentally weaker version of Lewis, except with more natural talent and explosivity. The guys most similar to Wlad in style that Lewis fought are Golata, Mavrovic, Bruno and obviously Vitali. Lewis beat all of these guys but also did struggle at least a little against all but Golota. from a technical perspective I'd say Wlad is superior to all these guys except maybe Vitali but that is debatable. What is much less debatable though is that Wlad more than likely punched harder than all of the fighters mentioned. One could argue that if fighters like this could catch Lewis with good shots and in some cases hurt him, a prime Wlad would be very capable of replicating their success, and with his superior power, knocking The Lion out.

 

No because Lewis would always take Wladimir seriously.

 

He was much better and more dangerous than Rahman, so you can't exactly say never.

I agree that Lewis should be favorite, but I won't put it much more strongly than that.

The case for Wlad, was that he was simply so negatively effective, that most of his opponents weren't ably to showcase what he had.

Against Joshua he was past his best, against a man that he had no physical advantages over, and he showcased all kinds of clever little tricks.

If you want to see prime Wlad taken down to the wire, then watch that fight, and imagine that he is younger.

 

It's a close fight. Not sure why people think this would be an easy blowout for Lewis. Wladmir can match Lewis in ring wits, and Wladmir had the faster, more consistent jab. Whoever can dictate the pace with their jab is going to have the advantage and momentum in this fight. You could also argue Wladmir hits harder. Both weren't great at taking hits so it might end the moment someone lands a powerful blow or combination. However, I do think Lewis was maybe a bit physically stronger and mentally tougher enabling him to be more comfortable in a shootout as seen in his fights with Mercer and Briggs, so I think Lewis is better off making it a rough dog fight than to try and outwit Wladmir (although that's still very dangerous).

 

I do believe Wlad can win. Even if the argument if Wlad’s chin will fold if Lewis starts slugging and jumps on Wlad like he did Vitali, Lewis himself has porous defense and would eat some big right hands which might shatter his suspect chin. And if they boxed, I think Wlad would look superior and take a decision. Despite what people say I don’t think outhustling Lewis for a decision is that hard. He took plenty of rounds off against old Holyfield in both their fights which is why I don’t think the first was a robbery and the second could’ve been Holyfield’s. He often switches off and starts pawing with the jab. Perhaps a condition issue. Not that Wlad is a conditioning wonder himself but I do think he is the more talented fighter which may help him take a decision. That being said even though I think Lewis does not deal with pressure well and hates being out of his comfort zone, you would have to say he’s more comfortable than Wlad. I think there are more ways for Lewis to win this than Wlad tbh.

 

Almost none whatsoever. Sure, there is the Rahmen scenario, but if Lewis trains, he is just too rugged for Wladdy.

 

I favor Wlad over Lewis. At all times. In all situations.

 

Their skills and power might actually be a wash, but Lewis just has way more dog in him for me. For all the flack he gets about his chin he probably fought about 20 punchers and got KOed twice, Wlad fought about 10 and got KOed 3x.

 

Sure, why not. Wlad could land as much as Mavrovic and he hits a lot harder. A lot of Lewis' advantages would be negated by Wlad. I think this is a close fight and Wlad is a damn fine heavyweight all things considered.

I favour Lewis, but not by much. In their Prime (so Fury and Vitali don’t count) I doubt they were ever outboxed …KO’d yes…actually outboxed over a sustained period of time, no.
Actually Frank Bruno may well argue with that point haha!


Both have the power to KO eachother too, as it’s been proved that both could have their lights switched off, though Wlad is the more vulnerable of the two in that regard. This could make all the difference in this match up.

All in all peak prime v peak prime, I’d pick Lewis to take it one way or another, but not a foregone conclusion in any way.
