I think that he would be a huge star today. A charismatic, white, American, power punching heavyweight woudl be very marketable. Much would depend upon how he was matched and managed of course, and he would find a way to screw things up eventually. I think he woudl probably come in at around 230lbs today, so big enough to compete.
He'd be in the mix, an exciting, but limited fighter. Wilder is a good comparison, although Baer was far more durable.
Punching power and durability will transcend well into any era. I’m skeptical of his fighting style though. That and unless he were able to bulk up significantly he’d be on the small side
Good chance he becomes champ, even if he doesn't I see him being a relevant figure in the heavyweight scene
Joshua has multiple guys on his resume (and THOSE guys have multiple people on their resume that I would also) favor over Baer.
In an era with Deontay Wilder? Baer's charisma and personality alone will make him a relevant figure in the boxing world (and likely give him a shot), and he certainly has the power and ferocity to spark plenty of heavys. A combination of these things makes me think that Baer winning a title at some point is a likely possibility
These kinds of things are always hard to imagine. Max likely would have been a completely different fighter today had he lived on a modern diet. Also, by all accounts he didn't like hurting people, so he would have been a lot more likely to have been involved in a ball sport than boxing. That said, if we simply transplant him from his time period, his physical gifts (chin, power, relative speed), would be enough to take out some lumbering heavyweights we have today. Now, if he were born in the modern era and somehow ended up boxing, he would likely be a lot bigger with a modern diet and training methods. In which case, I think that comparisons to Wilder make sense. I think he'd be similar to Wilder, but less predictable thanks to him clowning around, but with a worse jab than Wilder. Ultimately, I think the two of them would have similar success levels. Btw, if anyone hasn't seen Max's old theatrical shorts, I recommend watching them. He's an entertaining guy. He also looks to have filled up in size after boxing which makes me think he'd be pretty heavy boxing today. Also, Disney had an old cartoon parody of him (Max Hare) which is quite entertaining for boxing fans of his.
