I don't see how Thomas Hearns is not mentioned as the best. His jab swelled up all the greats he fought..
may have posted in here already but may deserves a second mention he's that ****ing good. Floyd Mayweather. TBE. Fact. No one is even remotely close to his level. No one has the remsume of '' The Best Ever ''
Ah, that's a good mention. He had a very active jab. Didn't seem to have that much power, but was consistently in his opponents faces. Even all time greats didn't get away from it that much. On a side note, Joey Maxim is a cool name. Ha-ha!
In no particular order Monzon, Wlad, Holmes, Hearns, Kovalev, Louis, Golovkin All guys that could basically control a fight with their jab and ruin you with it as well.
We do not have footage of it, but Frank Erne destroyed The Old Master with his jab in their first LW Title bout, forcing Gans to concede in 12 rounds for one of the most amazing successful title defenses of all time. We do have plenty of footage of Joe, and his jab. For Frank to wreck Gans of all people with his jab really says something. I have numerous yellowed, fragile and brittle newspaper clips from 1900 detailing Erne-Gans I with careful and skilled scrutiny back when writing about sports was at its journalism zenith and high artistry. (I love going to the local libraries to enjoy the sports reporting from this era. The statistical details of baseball reporting are particularly compelling.) Joe needed to figure out how to counter that devastating left jab of Erne's for their rematch two years later. His careful analysis and preparation over that interval proved successful as he blew out Frank in a single round with a shot so fast many spectators didn't even see it to become the first Afro-American boxing champion in any division. Very long overdue, Frank Erne finally gained entry into the IBHOF in 2020. His successful defense over Gans alone should've gotten him in at least a couple of decades sooner. (McGuigan reaches Canastota in 2005 and Erne, with wins over Kid Lavigne, Elbows, Dixon and Gans has to wait until 2020? Are you kidding me? Look at their respective records!) Is Frank Erne the greatest Swiss born boxer of all time? There seems to be virtually no competition for his primacy in that respect. (Maybe somebody here can correct and clarify that assumption.) Even in his era, he was renowned as a great ring general and stylist.
Shout out to Dmitry Bivol even though he is not classic. I would put up his Jab or 1+2 combo against most
He actually had an excellent jab and his fight with Miguel Angel Gonzalez show that. I believe he was a,converted southpaw.
Holmes and it was such a weapon he was able to successfully fight well after his prime because of the jab alone.
