Prime Julio Cesar Chavez.. A brief gameplan I guess.... no need to get super detailed. When, and what, are the things that got exposed or figured out in Chavez´s game ? What were his flaws and when it was exposed ?
I was ready to give you a super detailed game plan but since your requirments are "just a brief game plan I guess" then I guess I wont reply...even though i just did...you know what i mean.
Chavez would be a very difficult fighter to prepare for; simply because he was so good at everything, and made very few basic mistakes. I don't think there's a plan any tip fighter could follow, rather, there are simply fighters who were good enough - with the right style - to beat him. Leaving out the more obvious (Duran, Whitaker, Armstrong, etc), I'd make guys like Williams, Laguna, Canzoneri, or Ortiz.
A lot of what Mel Taylor did is what would be key. Keep that "stick" or jab on him,(Needs to work over time with it.) Keep him in the center of the ring, and keep him turning from there. DO NOT exchange with him unless it's completely advantageous for you to do so, and if you do, remain on the spot no more than 30 seconds. If and when your back touch the ropes, hold, walk him back into the center of the ring. Wash and repeat as long as the fight goes. Remain disciplined .

Right ? That is why I rate Chavez so highly, everybody here can tell some stuff on how to beat someone like Ali or Arguello, or even Robinson, Chavez was never figured out in a way that we can tell "he has this and that flaw!" I guess you can tell me that he had trouble with Quickness, because of the TAylor first fight..... but this is not a flaw per se, this is like someone saying that some fighter had trouble with "power", it is a physical attribute, not a gameplan.
That is a fine answer. Though I would say that Chavez had a great right hand counter against the jab, so unless you are really fast and commited, it will work against you.
And you see ? This is why I believe I am correct in rating Chavez as a top 10 fighter of all time.... shocking to some probably. I just love to watch the guy. My criteria is...... if I was in the other corner, how would I feel ? How would I feel being in the corner of a or as a Tyson´s opponent ? Not confortable, but I can do a few things of the top of my head.... same with many other greats including Ali, Leonard, LaMotta etc... Resumè you may ask. Yeah I fail there when I explain why I rate Chavez so well.... but isn´t resumè a thing like kinda a "slippery slope" in reverse ? Kinda like... if Ali never had problems with Frazier, wouldn´t we say that Ali´s best win was Foremans ? And we would say "Frazier was not that great, he was destroyed by Ali, and Foreman.... unskilled Bonavena dropped him twice etc"..... You see where I´m going ?? Chavez destroyed Mel, that loss broke the poor guy, had Chavez lost... we probably would say "Oh he fought the great Meldrick Taylor, remember him ? That was a great fighter"...
