I was on Dubois' side in the Joyce fight; his face was broken and he called it. Not everybody is The Monster. I can live with that. Last night he was in the fight, losing pretty steady, but in it. It was raining. The ref didn't rule in his favor. Usyk was starting to punch him up at will. Dubois ran out of want-to.
I have no issue with a fighter quitting when it's clearly over - he couldn't see, he was badly injured already and could've taken permanent damage if he'd continued... Given he couldn't see well enough to even have a punchers chance, that was clearly over. Against Usyk? He still had a punchers chance, so as you say: he just didn't want to go any more.
Dubois is a sympathetic figure to me. He looks the part- he talks confidently, he is likeable, seems bright, and has had good moments enough to make a highlight reel. He simply doesn't have the chin or heart. His drive to win is outweighed by his own mind. He got knocked out by a jab for the love of god... Watch- within 2 years, you'll see AJ vs Dubois very soon. They're very similar.
This devastating punching physical specimen got bullied mentally and physically by a much naturally smaller aged and inactive blown up CW and got taken out as soon as they turned the heat up and landed with a few combinations. He took the knee after eating a power jab. For all his physical gifts and vaunted power, he needs to stay away from the genuine power punchers in the division his size, let alone devastating punching behemoths.
I think he is mentally not the strongest and after he landed the shot that should or could have won him the fight. He couldn't mentally recover from it.
I defended Dubois strongly after the quitting accusations against Big Joe Joyce. But after the cheating accusations from him, his trainer and promoter are comical given he only secured his shot at Usyk in the first place due to the flagrant corruption in his previous fight. Not a peep of outrage or talk of a rematch for Lerena from them who just got shafted and left out in the cold,
