do you reckon that chavez would have a good chance against a still novice Tito in 1993 it would of been a more lucartive fight than the sweet pea fight.
Whitaker-Chavez was a very lucrative fight. Trinidad was still making his name in the sport, and an undercard fighter. Trinidad would've been too big and powerful IMO for Chavez, who was never really much above 140.
Tito beat Maurice Blocker in '93 for a piece of the welterweight title. I think he was a little closer to his prime (on the upswing) than Chavez was (on the downswing). Agreement that Tito would be just too big.
Chavez may have been a little too small to war with Tito, but I think he could have outboxed Tito and taken a close decision if he was up for the fight like he was up against Whitaker. Trinidad in 1994 would face a shot Camacho and Camacho would win some rounds and make Trinidad look bad in patches. This is a Camacho who got outright stomped by Chavez two years earlier. I think with Chavez's boxing skills, if he fought a restrained fight, he could get to Tito and use his skill and experience to edge ahead. Going to the body occasionally (where Tito could be hurt) may be key for Chavez in the first half of the fight.
I have to respectfully disagree with you though the Camacho that fought Trinidad was past prime he but was not shot by any means, same as the Camacho that Chavez fought. Overall I just think Tito is too big and strong for 147 pound Chavez who IMO would play right into Tito hands literally and figuretively.
Camacho was past his prime in 1992 when he faced Chavez. Against Tito he was a weight class heavier and two years older. He was not the same fighter that Chavez fought. And he still caused Tito more problems than he did Chavez. Now, as to thinking Tito is just overall too big and strong at welter, that's not a bad call, possibly that's the case. I don't think Chavez can win warring with Tito, but i do think he stays in the fight with his boxing ability and possibly pulls it out. Could be wrong.
