He was in Dubai so I wasn't surprised. That's why the original rematch date was pulled. I wonder what Liam Smith does next. I can see him retiring to be honest because he already won a World Title and there are no big fights available for him apart from Kell Brook.

 

it's a weird one because he was saying there was nothing wrong with his foot in the press conference. I would get it if he just didn't want to make an excuse but then he was blaming the back injury and the weight cut.

 

Possibly he did say he didn't want to pull out to let the fans down but more likely he just didn't want to lose his payday especially if he's near the end

 

That was such a disappointing fight. I was waiting for Liam to get going but his movement (for whatever reason) was non existent. He couldn't close the range and Junior did a brilliant job of jabbing his head off and holding in the early rounds.

Liam ended up a punchbag and Junior can only box the fighter in front of him and he did it very well from mid-rounds onwards. Credit to Junior.

If Eubank does fight Benn next and as expected wins. I really hope he then goes for one of the proper belts at middleweight. Mind you I guess money talks. He might make £1 million fighting one of the belt holders, but against Benn with PPV he is potentially looking at £5 million plus easily.

Well, if Smith did live the good life and had to lose 42lbs because Eubank - rightly, never thought I’d say that - decided that there wouldn’t be any further postponements so he could make the weight properly - then it’s his own fault.

And if he did go into the ring flat because he didn’t take care of himself in between fights and was going in for the payday, then he disrespected the fans and deserved the beating Eubank gave him.

 

There must be more excuses told in boxing than any sport. First, the build-up is analysed, then the match, then the excuses.

 

I noticed Lauren Price’s opponent managed to get a shocking cut from a head clash, and particularly as she butted Price’s hair braids which must be tough as nails. Never seen that happen before.

 

Smith looked supremely confident in the whole build up to the rematch. Why? If he was injured/fine the weight wrong/surely flat in sparring etc
