Sorry to azims fans, sky boxing and shalom. But azim is just not that guy you are claiming him to be. He looked poor last night. Bang average/mediocre prospect, one dimensional, stiff, and not much power. He was rocked twice against a guy with 5 KOs The crowd were bored to sleep. Don't know why there's been so much hype for this guy. He aint nothing special at all.
He is only 21 and fighting very good opposition already - he never had a senior fight as an amateur. He'll definitely win a world title. I think he'd be best off staying away from Dalton Smith though right now. He definitely isn't a hype-job though, the more rounds he gets the better he will become. McGuigan and Boxxer need to make sure they don't rush him though, although I believe Sky want Azim to move quickly as they search for their next PPV star, especially after Okolie's defeat.
What 'very good opposition' lol, he's fought nobody. Feather fisted Fanian isn't even ranked in the top 200 at 140, and is just awkward that's it. If h'ed have been a puncher Azim would have been in trouble. .It was a very unimpressive performance. A top prospect would get Fanian out of there early. Like imagine Josh Taylor or Ricky Hatton when they were wcoming up at 140, they'd have just gone through Fanian. They'll have to be very careful with their matchmaking with Azim. Because he clearly isn't all that Boxxers stable is very weak they are too desperate for a star
Every promoter does this. Warren is doing it with Sheeraz just now, Matchroom have routinely done it with the likes of Ritson and Fowler (although seem to have switched model to focus on signing ready-made fighters).
I wasn't impressed last night but he's still very very young. McGuigan is a good coach, it would be good if Azim went state side with out the pressure of the home fans for a bit and get some top quality sparring and some lowkey fights down on the top rank cards.
Yeah I’m not sold on him at all. He’s clearly above British level but I think at world level he gets beaten pretty comfortably. He didn’t seem to press much last night or have any other answers to the questions fanyan asked but agreed he’s still very young so who knows
I totally agree. My biggest concern with Azim is that he is being brought forward far too quickly. Boxxer / Sky must have patience.
Considering he had no senior fights as an amateur he has moved very quickly. Look at the way he destroyed Rylan Charlton who gave Luke Willis and Florian Marku good fights. Compare his opposition to some of the other younger prospects who turned over around his age. An example is Henry Turner who is at the same weight as Azim. Azim has had 2 fewer fights but has fought much better fighters, despite them having similar amateur pedigree and turning professional at a similar time. They were talking about the European Title, so that would be Petitjean. I think Azim should have 1 more before that, maybe someone like Lewis Ritson would be a good opponent next. I think Boxxer should wait for Harlem Eubank to fight Petitjean. If Eubank wins that one matchmaking Azim against Harlem Eubank for the European Title would raise his profile a lot. The only problem is that it looks like Dalton Smith wants the European Title too. Do you know what has happened to Ben Whittaker? He was originally supposed to fight on yesterday's card but then said he had a different date. Someone on here said that Boxxer wanted him to headline against Ricky Summers at the Wolverhampton Civic Hall but Summers is fighting Yarde instead.
See now you're just lying lol. Fanyan was ranked around 70th on boxrec and is now 85th after the loss ahead of Postol and ivan redkach. The second best 140 pounder ukraine has to offer and has never been stopped. Where did you see that he's not even top 200? Aram beats everybody Dalton Smith has fought in his career but I agree that Azim needs to throw more combinations because the single shots wont cut it the more he progresses. Boxxer needs to slow down and not rush him like they're saying they want to, the kids only 21 and didn't have a single senior amateur bout! Franck petitjean isn't a bad fight next for the european title.
I know there are people whispering all kinds of big numbers in Ben Whitaker's ears. I guess it's an attempt to make him unhappy with Boxxer / Sky.
I didn't see Azim's full fight yesterday. I don't think Azim has fought a southpaw yet so it is hard to say. I'd probably say Azim would win on points but it would be close and I don't think Azim would look great. Petitjean is pretty unknown so it's probably better for them to see how Harlem Eubank does against Petitjean which is the planned fight. Eubank's style is much more suited to Azim.
Boxxer needs to slow down but u think he's ready for a European lol. The kids had 9 fights ffs. Out of them 9 he's only fought one opponent who's a true super lightweight. And another decent kid for that level in reyes As soon as he was in with someone his own size he just wasn't the same kid that boxxer was trying to make us believe. Another thing, Azim had no senior bouts and anyone who knows anything about the amateurs knows that junior achievements are 10 a penny, they mean virtually zero. Don't get me wrong Azim might turn out to be a decent kid and he certainly has time on his side but he's no where the fighter they are trying to make him out to be. For me they should send him the domestic route starting with the English against a solid English SuperLw. Tbf hes probably slightly above that level but he does need quite a bit of work and with the time he has at his age winding him back would do him a world of good.
Azim is much better than English level - look what he did to Rylan Charlton. One more against another fighter who will give him rounds and I think he'd win the European Title, although I have never seen him against a southpaw. If I were Boxxer I'd make Azim against Lewis Ritson. Ritson is done and they can see that when Ohara Davies beat Ritson, Davies fought for a world title straight after. Hopefully Azim doesn't have a fight until next year now, I think he could do with a rest considering how active he has been.
