Being hyper muscled isn't necessarily being in good shape for a boxer. I'd say Fury's conditioning in the Wlad fight was far superior to almost any iteration of Joshua barring the leaner one that whitewashed Ruiz. Fury right now is a mess of course.
He was in good shape for that one, but hasn't been near it since. The chock wave of Wilder's right rippled in waves through the fat on his back ffs. His stamina for Wlad was a bit hard to judge, though, since the pace was about the pace of a typical round of golf.
Yes. Especially when it comes from someone whose love handles are too big for Shaquille O'Neill to get a firm grip of.
Most are carrying extra weight but with no weight limit, they may as well come in feeling comfortable. There's no extra points for looking good.
Outside of Fury the other top heavyweights are in great shape like Usyk, Wilder and AJ. As for the rest of them It's probably one of the reasons the current heavyweight division is so bad. The Klitchko's were in top shape, Lennox Lewis, Mike Tyson, Holyfield these guys all would've had good high protein diets. A lot of todays heavyweights are fitter than the average man but their diets are likely not great and they are coming up against another overweight guy like in the case of Whyte v Franklin. Both were overweight and not as fit as an elite athlete so neither is going to be able to set a pace to make the other guy uncomfortable so barring a knock out shot both can comfortably go the distance with each other. This generation of fatter heavyweight though does seem to have some longevity as it is likely less taxing on the body maintaining a rigorous regime. That is why you have guys in their mid 40's now like Lucas Browne who can still be durable.
It's been the same since day dot. Buster Douglas, Tony Tubbs, Butter Bean, Botha ( not as fat still a fat **** though ) and countless others. Then you had others that were full of muscle and abs. HW were fat as **** then and fat as **** now. There's always been a mix.
They are obviously all fat slobs except for a few. I don't buy at all that Fury is better as it is. Other than leaning on his opponents I see nothing in his style that wouldn't benefit by a major weight loss.
I do not think he carries as much muscle as Ringo. But if you mean he might gain some while getting fit then maybe so. It was originally said that heavier guys are stronger-that is usually wrong or they are stronger heavier, BUT the point that they might be better & have more endurance is well-taken. Faster too. However the rules & *enforcement* of same mean it favors larger heavier men. Gloves, shorter fights, clinching gone overboard, legitimate inside figting broken up too soon or for no good reason... So it may be better OR no real sacrafice to be heavier-to a point-when the rule set & its policing favor size!
Carrying extra fat is a talent. Not everybody can put on the weight like Fury and still move as good - especially at that height and frame.
