At the time who would have thought that Canelo would still be in the top PFP ten years later?

Just goes to show you how Floyd is a master of opponent selection. Canelo was still green and Floyd drained him with the catchweight.

Great performance by Mayweather, he's a master level boxer. I knew the loss wouldn't damage Canelos career as he was still in his early years and was already a huge star. For him to have go on to have 3 close fights GGG is an accomplishment itself. He's a great fighter.

I does leave an asterisk *
But it was a solid ass whooping
2lbs might have actually won Nelo a few rounds.

The kid had no answers for a Master Boxer who pretty much wiped both Márquez & Paquiao btw.
Just too much too soon for the young fella.
But he did take his whooping & learn from it & it motivated him to become the fighter he is today.

Still one of the worst judges scorecards in boxing history.
Along with the teribble 118-110 card that was given in SRL vs Hagler.

Those Marquez and Pac fights also have asterisks. As usual with Floyd "smoke and mirrors" Mayweather.

Clenelo.wasn't anywhere close to what he is now. 168 is peak Clenelo.

Floyd doesn't have a clean untarnished win.

    Marquez — missed weight
    Pacquiao — IV fluids
    Canelo — catchweight and green

    You are right,

But even without those asterisks it wasn't even an impressive or dominating performance of any imagination,

Crazy how your able to win fights without even hurting or beating up your opponent in today's times playing tag while intentionally being evasive to the point of no deductions or warning by just expecting your opponent to just chase you all night, mind boggling the hype & accolades it generates,

The funniest thing is if one doesn't come forward & engage then there would be no fight to watch, just two fighters gazing at each others eyes haha.

Its also just a styles thing. Canelo was both green and simply not good versus that style which was evident by Lara and Bivol fights and even parts of BJS. Canelo really needs to plant himself to be effective. Someone who can fight on the move is trouble for him

Floyd was an ATG no question but he had a strong tendency of fighting guys at the right time.

Canelo was far too young (w/ a catchweight)
Manny was beaten far worse by JMM years prior
JMM in his first fight at 147 (after Floyd missed 144 CW)
Old DLH (and a draw in that fight wasnt preposterous...makes you wonder what prime DLH does w Floyd......)
Old Mosley (punchers chance if he was younger)
    Old and worn Cotto

I get that any resume can be picked apart but Floyd never fought elite competition at their best. Always w conditions that benefited Floyd.

By comparison, Crawford's win over Spence was better than any single win Floyd had. Crawford was #1 PFP fighting consensus #4/5 PFP Spence and it was more dominant than Floyd beating Canelo or Manny or DLH or any win for that matter. Obviously Floyd's resume is more impressive given the depth of quality opponents but Crawford has a better best performance than Floyd and he's still trying to get Jermell at 154 or Canelo at 168.

I’m glad getting owned so completely by Mayweather didn’t ruin his self-confidence as a fighter. Canelo’s had an excellent career.

Winning 43 professional fights, winning 7 world title fights, and being a top 10 P4P fighter is not green my guy.

If Pacquiao would've beat the same version of Canelo you would claim it as a great win.

Was Canelo at his absolute peak ? No. But neither was Mayweather being on the wrong side of 30.

Well you could also say Crawford fought Spence at the right time, and Mayweather beating Pacquiao who was P4P number 3 and a much greater fighter than Spence is a better win. Was Spence at his best when he fought Crawford ? Absolutely not so I don't understand your comment.

Mayweather getting a draw vs ODLH wouldn't be disastrous? Have a day off that was a comfortable 8-4, 9-3, victory for Mayweather for anyone that can actually score fights properly.

Old Mosley ? The same Mosley who was coming off one of his best performances of his career destroying Margarito ?

Canelo 7-0 in world title fights 43-0 top 10 P4P fighter was too young ? Yet no mention of Mayweather being in his late 30s and fighting at a weightclass that wasn't his best weight ?

Wins over ODLH, Hatton, Cotto, Pacquiao, Marquez, Corrales, Castillo, eclipse Crawford's resume.

I agree with the Marquez and Pac fights, but this Canelo was green narrative needs to stop. Canelo had 43 pro fights and had been fighting for 8 years professionally. He is not a much better fighter today than he was when he fought Floyd. All you need to do is watch the Bivol fight. Canelo did not improve against guys that know how to control space and pace with good footwork. I'll give you he may have improved in other areas, maybe, but not in fighting guys with a good jab and footwork.

43 and 38 were cab drivers, janitors, and resume-stuffing level opposition.

Floyd fought Clenelo 10 years ago and 16 pounds away.

Peak Clenelo is 160-168 and he can be competitive at 175.

Floyd gets decapitated by peak Clenelo.
