Fighter's That Benefited From Rounds Going From 15 to 12?

Is there any evidence that suggests, that Vitali would have had a big problem handling the 15 rounds distance? I don't think så!

Also, the idea that if we reverted back to 15 rounds, the top heavyweights would go back to weighing 200 (or thereabouts) lbs! C'mon... really?

I think punchers got the worst of it. Cute fighters would start slowing down and tiring during the last 3 rounds, giving the punchers a better chance of knocking them out.

 

I guess work rate during the fight contributes too, if they're not that active punching or moving around the ring that much they shouldn't have trouble

 

Another great point JT. Leonard came on strong those last three rounds in Montreal, Duran
wasn't coasting. I believe those last few rounds sowed the seeds in Duran's mind for what
was to happen in New Orleans.
Also, Leonard came on strong against Benitez in the 15th rd, stopping him in a fast
paced and competitive fight.

 

Also very true Flash. At his peak he was one helluva well rounded fighter.

 

Duran also gave away the 15th round stupidly in what I thought was still a close fight, the narrative over the years is that Duran beat up Leonard and that's simply not true.

I only had Duran winning 8-7 and Leonard won his fair share of rounds late on.

That`s cause he tires out his opponents by grabbing them in a head lock and putting all his weight on their back.

 

Duran was far better than Ray in that fight.

 

What Leonard did in the no mas fight was nothing like the last three rounds of the Montreal fight.

 

He was the first to come to mind, and I think it was because he was more tense than most great fighters.

He did finish strong against Vargas and Quartey, although in the Quartey fight, that was after doing practically nothing from rounds 7 through 11. And I think Mosley just finished great in the first fight as opposed to Oscar finishing really weak.

But I think his tenseness in the ring played a part in some of his late fight struggles.
