Whitaker can go 15 rounds with Chavez no problems. He dominated the second half of their fight and though Chavez would be better at a lighter weight, don't forget that Whitaker would too.

If Chavez can't find that body, he can't slow up Pea and it won't matter if the fight is scheduled for 12, 15 or 20.

Whilst I agree that late 80's Chavez would fare better and make it a closer fight, Pea wins this one. There ain't a massive gulf in talent between the two fighters by any means but it's just that Pea hold most of the stylistic aces here.

I reckon that Pea could beat everyone from lightweight to welterweight in history including SRR. But I would not say that he has Chavez number from a styles point of view

The JCC of 84-90 was a non stop punching machine who never seemed to tire. in 1993 he was only great for about 6 rounds.

Well this is all speculative and I'm speculating that the judges would score the fight properly. Chavez is in my top 4 all time favorite fighters but he got the benefit of the call against Whitaker.

I also think Whitaker beats Chavez at any pertinent weight. Obviously it's a harder more dangerous fight at 135 but Whitaker has the goods IMO.

Robinson?? I hardley think so... Whitaker at Welterweight struggled with Buddy McGirt, while is a fine boxer himself. Is no Robinson. Maybe a slower Middleweight version of Robinson, but certianly not the fast Welterweight version. Too much skills, too much power.

You really think Whitaker could beat any welterweight there are some guys who are terrible for him style wise, like Hearns I don't see how he could possibly beat Hearns.

I said COULD beat any welter. it does not mean that I belive he would beat every welter. hearns would probably be a nightmare. but look at carlos quintana against paul williams. he manged to beat a man with a great size advantage

Hearns was pushed close by Benitez and he did struggle with welterweight limit

I felt he beat Benitez by a large margin and Williams is nowhere near as good as Hearns and it not like Whitaker and Quintana have a similar style. Anyway Benitez is a all time great I doubt Whitaker could do much better against Hearns, not to discredit Pernell but Tommy is all wrong for him.

P.S Hearns alway claimed he never found it hard to make 147lbs.

That's absurd. Maybe at LW, but not through WW.

You wouldn't say he has Chavez's number but you think he's capable of beating someone like Hearns?

Nelson and Ramirez never tired, that didn't seem to hurt Whitaker.

He beat Benitez by about 9 points at JMW and dominated at WW handily for the majority of his prime career aside from the Leonard bout, which he was winning clearly prior to being stopped.

Williams is not comparable to Hearns in any way aside from height and reach. Neither is Quintana comparable to Whitaker, but still Hearns is an awful matchup for Pea at WW. I give him literally no chance of winning.

Whitaker aint beating Hearns at welterweight. If he showed really good power at the weight then it becomes only a distant possibility. As good as Whitaker was at long range he faces a massive height and reach disavantage, and also his handspeed at welterweight isn't quite like Hearns'. And he'd be be playing a risky game indeed if he decided to become aggressive and look to get inside like Leonard did for short periods against Hearns. He doesn't have the same power as Leonard to do a similar job at close quarters. However, Whitaker does present Hearns with problems to some degree. He's got upperbody and head movement to slip Hearns' jab, the movement to avoid his shots, and his own jab would be a weapon. That said, those strengths aren't enough to seriously take a grip of the fight and dominate. As good as Whitaker's jab was, he'd be facing a fighter who had quicker hands and a jab even busier than his own.
