Azumah Nelson talks of his 5 greatest fights

One of my favourite fighters. A legend and wonderful human being.

 

Is this thread supposed to celebrate Nelson or deride his contemporaries? Can't tell.

 

I think the thread sort of shows that's it's possible (and often likely) to be both a great, memorable fighter and an egotistical, childish bollock brain at the same time. Oh, and to be called Uncle when you're not really somebody's uncle. I suspect that Olu had loads of uncles like that as a kid. I know I did. You know the type. They borrowed your Dad's circular saw once and after that you always called them Uncle Azumah. Often inappropriately and overly familiar with your Mum. Cold hands when they touched your arse but suspiciously warm on the back of their necks.

Anyway, yeah, Nelson was great. A weirdly inconsistent ring general who could sleepwalk through fights and had a few close or outright dodgy decisions go his way, but a great combination of textbook skill, toughness and power at his best. Not a fighter who needs an oddball to feverishly exalt his every atom while living in silly sausage land.

 

‘No Azumah, you cannot borrow my circular saw. Spend some of your ring earnings on your own one, you tight ****.’

 

This is silly. Clint not scared of anybody.
