Can't remember any fighter whose opponents with good/great chins had reaction like Joyce and Hrgovic had every time they got hit to the head. I mean, every, every single time they got hit by Zhang's left hand or right hook they looked like they were transferred to another reality. The last time I saw someone's punches had the similar (but still not exactly the same) impact on fighters with good/granite chins were Corrie Sanders fights against usually very durable Alfred Cole and granite-chinned Vitali Klitschko. Vitali probably wasn't hurt as much against Sanders as Hrgovic and Joyce were against Zhang, but he was still clearly more hurt than in any other fight if his career, and that says a lot considering he took Lennox Lewis' best uppercut. I think it might be the combination of brutal power and speed of punches that made Zhang's and Sander's opponents react in such way to getting hit by them.
seems like there are a lot of heavy handed fighters out there today. Nakatani just recently sent Maloney to the shadow relm with a well placed punch. if nothing else, these fights are easy to score.
Mike Tyson stopped some durable fighters. Pinklon Thomas Trevor Berbick Larry Holmes As for Joyce his chin is above average but i'm not sure it was amazing like some people were claiming, Parker was not a big puncher and people went overboard regarding Joyce's chin just based on that fight. And lets remember Zhang has only stopped one notable opponent in his entire career even though he's clearly heavy handed.
**** me there must be some newbies on this forum.. of course people have seen that before it's common at HW especially.. Joyce is a walking punching bag .. anyone with a bit of ring sense, speed and power will take him apart..
Zhang reminds me of George Foreman. Most of the time it doesn’t even look like he hits with bad intentions - and only when he connects and you hear that massive bang your realise that he is a monster. Also, unlike Wilder, he can punch with both hands and he is a southpaw so I’d say he is probably the most dangerous HW out there today.

Zhang has heavy hands for sure - but, while Joyce is easy to hit, the speed, timing and accuracy of the right hook were almost as noteworthy as the power behind the punch. The type of execution that goes a long way in its own right to hurt an opponent. Similarly, while Shavers had natural power also, the executions of many of his more celebrated punches were absolutely spot on. The overhand right that dropped Holmes was a peach for timing and accuracy. Even huge punchers have their Sunday punch - that might’ve been the one for Earnie - there was also his beautiful right hand that badly wobbled Ali in round 2 of their fight. Earnie had a terrific reach for his height also - about 79”-80” a reach that enabled him to reach taller opposition - a reach that might’ve taken some opponents by surprise.
It is of note that he completely pole-axed Joyce with a right cross (sort of right hook?). Wasn't even a left. Hey, China, want to pull a Saudi and throw around crazy money to make a fight happen? See if you can get Usyk, Fury, or Wilder to fight Zhang. Throw the fight in Beijing.
Great post. Yes. Vitalis chin is a bit overrated. I prefer Povetkins chin over him just because it was much more active. Vitali was not hit clean on that often and too far apart to be in the danger zone of being knocked down or out. That is because he was tall and learned away from small opposition. Povetkin was a small tank coming forward thus went thru so much more abuse. This is why Vitalis chin is overrated. He could be taken out just like Joyce. I still prefer Joyce chin over Vitalis from what i have been seeing. Sanders had scary power. Zhang too.
