I fought across all the original weight classes; I had almost 300 fights in my career but I was never a champion; I only beaten one Hall of Famer; I scored more than 100 KO's, 50 inside 3 rounds; I fought KO Kelly many times, I beaten Joe Sekyra more than once, Arturo Godoy, Marty Simmons, Paul Pirrone, and many more tough fighters. During a part of my career, Australia was my home. I was born in a town with the same name as a particular kind of grape from the Vitis Labrusca family; Who am I?
I was sure this was Alabama Kid until I saw the town clue, with Alabama being a state rather than a town
Correct answer Greg. The town where Alabama Kid was born is Concord, the same name as a grape of the Vitis Labrusca family.
Three cheers for the Alabama Kid. You hear it at the end of football games sometimes, but I doubt a lot of boxers were chanting ‘We Want Bama’ when the Kid was around.
Alabama Kid sounds like one of those young cowboy gunslingers in those 1950s Westerns who is quick on the draw and always ends up in a shootout against a bad guy. The bad guy always wears a black hat and has a scar across his face from past battles. The Alabama Kid would obviously be played by the ever youthful Audie Murphy and after shooting down Black Hat in the last scene he rides outa town, without the girl he’s been romancing in the entire movie, telling her, “ My life is not the life for you. Take care.” Don’t you just love this version of The Alabama Kid
Alabama Kid wasn’t from Alabama, nor did he ever fight there at least according to his record compiled by Boxrec. He was from Georgia, fought out of Ohio and, after migrating, for a good while out of Australia. He kind of reminds me of Tex Colorado, the Arizona Assassin (from Dakota). This content is protected
Did you get one right - at least retroactively? Well done! The very last member to get one right is apparently obligated to do a nudie run that has to be streamed live on the web. You wouldn’t believe it - during my brief “holiday”, I saw a number of quiz questions go by that I KNEW the answers to - but, alas, I wasn’t eligible to post same. Frustrating. Now I’m back - strangely, the answers to date have been beyond me. I mean, what were the odds of that happening? @Gui Dosnera is a legend for posting these quiz questions - mucho appreciated. BUT, can we have separate questions for a sub target audience - accomodating us “other” boxing fans with more more remedial style questions? OR, at the very least, if Gui could specify several boxing books from which he sources the details for his next question - I could easily memorise those tomes and have a shot at getting the next question right. Sorry, what was I talking about again? Ah, that’s right, I’ll have my eggs scrambled thanks.
