Classic posters, who are your three favorite fighters active today, at the moment, why are they your favorites and how do you think history will see them decades from now? Will their esteem rise or fall 20-30 years from now given their current record and accomplishments.
Gonzalez Estrada Yabuki Gonzalez and Estrada will both go down as some of the best p4p boxers of the 2010's and early 2020's. You won't be able to talk about 115 lbs without mentioning at least one of them. Yabuki probably has the biggest upset in the history of 108.
Naoya Inoue, Usyk and Canelo will definitely have a place in boxing history, but I can't say they are my 3 favorites, just the first ones that come to mind.
My current favourites today here in September 2023 are… 1. Joe Joyce He’ll be forgotten soon enough that’s for sure. He’s done nothing to be remembered for. He’s had a couple of decent wins over Dubois and Parker and two crushing defeats at the hands of Zhang. And that’s about it so far. But we like who we like, eh. I always knew he was a big, strong, but limited guy. However I thought he was just about good enough to be a belt holder in this fairly average era. How wrong I was. I’m a fan of big. strong and ultimately not good enough British HWs it seems. The hard punching but chinny David Price was another favourite of mine! Go figure. 2. Artur Beterbiev He will be guaranteed a place in the history books as the deadliest punching LHW of this era…and if he ever gets round to fighting and beating Bivol, he’ll also be remembered as the best. He may well even be considered an ATG top 15-20 LHW and a certain H2H monster But he isn’t getting any younger and I doubt this fight will ever materialise. If it does, the chances are one or both (more likely Beterbiev) will be well past their best by then. 3. Usyk I admire a lot about this guy. He’ll be remembered as a Top 2 ATG Cruiser..maybe the best ever. And it’s my personal belief that he’s 1 or 2 HW victories away from being crowned the best of this era. Beating Fury would probably be enough to achieve that status considering he’s already beaten Joshua. But a victory over Wilder and he would have beaten who many consider the best 3 Heavyweights in recent years. 30 years from now he’ll be remembered as the “little guy” who slayed 3 gigantic world champions and retired undefeated. However that’s all ifs and buts for now. If he retired now, there’ll be too many unanswered questions about how good a HW he really was in this era.
