I've recently heard a friend of a friend proclaim in an expert voice that modern heavyweights should learn to use elbows like Floyd more.

I can think of only one answer to this question, you guessed it, Holyfield

If You can get away with it... Fury knocked Steve Cunningham out after blatantly pushing him off with his forearm, so He has some of the same tricks up his sleeve as well.

Fair point, though I don't think the daunting proccess of drilling and bringing up a fighter typically presumes A-side advantage needed to outright make a style out of it like Floyd did. Ocassional use is feasible and relatively common.

This is certainly true, other members brought it up already and I agree that almost every great fighter has some kind of little tricks He'll use to at least bend the rules a little bit.
I also didn't want to overstate the level of "dirtiness" in Floyd's game. Topic is about dirty fighters not recognised as such - and I think fans usually recognise it quite well - so those who get under the radar a little bit are most likely not that bad.

Holmes was notorious for thumbing. Many of his
    opponents complained about it.

Robin Reid. As soon as he'd start getting frustrated or desperate, the constant fouling would start.

Good call on Foreman, remember the Alex Stewert fight? Geroge dropped him a couple of times early but couldn't finish him and by mid fight Alex was beginning to find Foreman's face with solid punches. Later in the fight as Foreman's face looked awful George broke the momentum by cranking a huge hook below the belt line that hurt Alex. I thought the replay left no doubt, he did that on purpose.

Strange you should say that Grant was the one got the warnings for holding the head. LOL Grant was supposed to be the next big thing & would beat them all. He gave a good impersonation of a windmill, all he hit was air lol It was his head that was dangerous, Lennox was keeping that away
Say what you want, for my money Lennox Lewis was the best HW champion since Ali

Some people seem to be in denial about this but Tyson Fury is incredibly dirty (especially in the Cunningham fight).

You can clearly see that he does. The commentators even mention it. And yes Lewis is one of the most impressive heavyweights champions in history, where did I say otherwise?
