Today marks the anniversary of Gary's passing. Any thoughts or memories about him would make a nice tribute to the man . RIP champ
I always liked to watch Gary fight. Tough fella. Shame he never met Frank, but he put a good effort in against a young Lennox. Tragic ending for the guy. RIP
Good fighter, very game, decent puncher,not the quickest or the best boxer but an excellent addition to the UK boxing scene.A decent, honest fighter ,and man.

My old pal and gym mate, Al Malcolm, fought Gary at the Albert Hall on Mason's pro debut. Al had Gary cut and wobbling in the first round but Mason was immensely game and in a pretty wild punch up, Gary knocked Al out. The fight was so frenetic, I can't remember whether it was the first or the second ! @mcvey was probably there so might remind me. Gary Mason was dedicated, driven and as brave as they come. It's a pity that Lawless and Duff parked his career to benefit Frank Bruno.
Tough guy with a big punch. And according to what people have said over the years, was a nice person in private life. I believe he fought out of the same Terry Lawless stable with Frank Bruno and Horace Notice. Would have liked to have seen Mason in some better match ups. Meetings with guys like Alex Stewart, Orlin Norris Francesco Damiani, Jose Ribalta and Ray Mercer might have been fun to watch

12 years already, where does the time go? Gary Mason always came across as a decent guy and was a courageous fighter.
Without his eye trouble and if he came along a little bit later (and maybe taken an easier route) I see no reason he could not have fought for a world title and would have given a great account of himself. IMO a notch above Hide, Bentt and Akinwande who all claimed straps.
Very entertaining and tough. Unfortunately he lost his most media exposed fight vs Lennox but I see no one brings up him being damgaed goods by then already. His eyes were badly damaged even if recent surgery on paper repaired them. They were shut with Lennox aswell. Sans eye injury he would have had a much better career I feel. His tragic end was sad aswell.
