Most of us here (me included) overrated Joyces chin too much or maybe it was really steel made but the guy got too many bombs on the face in the last four fights not having decent defensive skills and something defo got broken. So...do you think Joyce is done without his granite chin? Can he still compete for the title or not?
Kind of. Once Fury beats Usyk them belts will fragment everywhere with both retiring and the highest bidders will get them likely Wilder & AJ. But it's possible for all 4 of them men retire if they all get Saudi paydays and they won't be too motivated chasing a plastic belt anymore where as Joyce/Zhang/Hurgo will be...
I get tons of boxing predictions and career trajectories wrong. But I was spot on when it came to Joyce. I was confident he would beat Stiverne (though the Jennings fight almost threw me off!), I was very confident he would beat Dubois and I was confident he would beat Parker. That being said I was also confident Zhang would beat him twice. I thought Takam would also beat him, which I admit I got wrong What I'm trying to say is that Joe went from being drastically underrated to being drastically overrated very quickly. He went from being seen as a joke to being seen as this juggernaut who could bowl over most heavyweights. Complete bollocks Joe's hype came from several things: he managed to absorb all of Dubois' hype, who was also extremely overrated by Brits as this AJ 2.0, and after Dubois, Joe was matched extremely well against Joe Parker. People didn't understand that he was an active, heavyhanded, jab-heavy fighter who would struggle against southpaws, and his ''granite chin'' was more the product of Dubois being overrated (Dubois has insane power because... he battered some part-time kickboxers?) and Parker doesn't throw a lot of straight power shots People are acting like Joyce aged as badly as Stiverne did between the two Wilder fights. Complete rubbish. He's a less-than-mediocre fighter who was bailed out by his engine, heavy hands, ridiculous Dubois hype and excellent matchmaking. Joe winning an Olympic medal is as bizarre as Wilder winning one and imo shows how meaningless amateur boxing is (which I fully admit I dislike and always have) I was berated earlier this year for saying AJ demolishes Joyce, which he certainly does, because AJ (despite his faults) is brilliant at throwing sharp, hard shots and punching at a mid-distance. But the a>b>c crowd who think boxing is a video game or an anime or a superhero film laughed at me Frank will want to make Joyce-Dubois2, but there's not much in it for Joe. He can maybe stick around the scene for a while and perhaps fight up-and-comers, but it wouldn't surprise me if he's seen as a British Ortiz and left out in the cold Warren has zero interest in Joyce and never did. When Joyce was getting lumped by Hammer, Frank's interview afterwards made it clear he thinks Joe is sh1t. Frank wanted to feed him to Dubois, and when that backfired he saw it as an opportunity to make a little money off of him. Then came the matter of Usyk, which, let's face it, Frank would've happily forced Dubois and Joyce to bruise Usyk, and the Fury-Usyk showdown is only happening because INSANE money is being thrown at it (perhaps coupled with a little public backlash idk)
Still some big fights out there for Joyce and good money to be made. He might even pick up a strap at some stage when they inevitably get fragmented.
Done? No. But he end carrer not being champion or top 3-5. More like top 15. Boxing is hard sport where You dont have soo many chance. Joyce got his own 5 minutes but he and his team forget to be humble and Zhang end it brutally. But still Joyce can fight and win in good fights. How it would be looking depends only on how good they take care of his career. Yoka vs Joyce should be priory for Warren. Joyce should throw down the gauntlet to him and take his revange for Olimpic.
Hell, sometimes in boxing appearances are deceptive, many thought he had Foremans chin that could permitt him to absorb many heavy blows with the head (not having good defensive skills) without consequences. Instead....
Warren will try and resurrect him but time isn't on his side. I.don't see where he goes tbh. Rematch with Dubois doesn't appeal too much.
Joyce did beat the **** out of Dubois and Dubois did fight for the titleā¦.. The rabbit hole goes deep.
He's done at very top level(in hindsite he never was) but could still get some good wins. Dubois and Parker are still fighting right?
The rematch might have messed with him mentally. He needs another win ASAP, then we will know if he is done or not.
