DeForest on Corbett ..

I'm not comparing him to Corbett, I'm judging his punch style.

 

Right. Courtney vs Corbett was 1894 film ( I think ) and Corbett lets him say until the final round than Ko's him on que. They fought in a small area.

Corbett's skills are better shown in the 1897 real fight with Fitzsimmons. You'll see straights to the body, and lighting combinations. Corbett was also decent in the clinch warfare of the times. Like you said he was quick with his legs, and very fast. Ftiz caught Corbett with a body shot to end it, however, it was cleverly set up by a feint high, then in a split second when Corbett's guard was off, followed up by a body shot to the floating rib area.

 

His setup to the knockdown on Fitz was pretty great.

 

It was.

Corbett by my count fought 11 matches vs hall of fame heavyweights. So he was tested vs the best. I just wish he fought a bit more and focused less on the theater.

 

Who are the 11 Heavyweight Hall Of Famers he fought? Not that being in the Hall Of Fame means jack sh*t.
BTW How many of the 11 matches did he win?

Fireman Jim Flynn has a good 25 Hall Of Fame matches on his resume what does that actually mean?:huh

In running, stamina is about the same as endurance.

In boxing, there's a considerable distinction, endurance taking in both stamina and enduring punishment.

 

Jeffries, Choynski, Mike Donovan and Billy Edwards all look better than Corbett on film IMO

 

Aside from obvious boxing theatrics on film (including the Courtney bout), Corbett didn’t look too bad in his actual fight against Bob Fitzsimmons.

Corbett boxing Kid McCoy on film is quite a laugh, shirtless in their pantaloons - there is also the added bonus of Jim executing a full 360 degree piourette mid spar.

Very balletic - maybe Jim should’ve been wearing a tutu - he was a fan of the thong, after all.
