in Britain, both Len Harvey & Jock McAvoy were Middleweight & Light-Heavyweight Kings,
both holding titles, Top 10 Contenders and even noted as British version of 'World Champion'...

also 'generally' speaking the Lonsdale Belt, then, was basically only 2cd to the World Championship.

but yes, Harvey & McAvoy held, for years, these joint accolades.

 

Old Ruby Rob got the middleweight, then the heavyweight before dropping down to lightheavy.

 

Roy Jones Jr. was a champ in both weight classes.

 

Jones was certainly considered the best middleweight even if he didn't spend much time there. He was clearly the man at the time of moving up to 168. It's a no brainer he was the best 175.

 

But but but ... he didn't fight Michalczewski...

I know you're joking but technically Michalczewski was Lineal champion so technically he was "the man". But I've always thought people suggesting Jones would lose to Michalczewski is bonkers.

Jones is different class to Michalczewski just compare their fights with Richard Hall, Michalczewski had his jaw broke and went through hell twice with Hall. Jones treated Hall like a sparring partner and massacred him.

As I said different class.

I hear you and I was joking and tbh, given what happened in Seoul, I don't really blame Roy for not flying for the fight. Irrespective, whilst Mich was lineal, Roy was the man and would have absolutely destroyed him had the fight happened and he was in seek and destroy mode IMO.

Ah well, what could've been. The thing that hurts me as a fan is that I watched his career and people don't realise that Floyd was great but not talked about anywhere near what we thought of Roy at the time. Instead of being remembered for the mercurial talent he was, people talk about him being chinny and all the losses post Ruiz. If he retired then, we are talking about arguably the best H2H fighter from 160 - 175 lbs who also captured a HW title. I wouldn't argue him top of the tree, but I certainly think that Floyd would be quieter about him being the best ever.

Not really. This is one of those "myths" which still get parroted now & then. In both fight Michalczewski-Hall fights, DM started slow over the first 3 rounds then basically dominated.

 

No thats not true especially the 1st fight Hall was very much in that fight all the way in which was a very brutal fight, alot of people were actually unhappy with the stoppage in the 1st fight and thought Michalczewski benefitted from it which is why there was a rematch.

 

Dariusz won almost every round against Hall. It was a rough fight, but not close.
