I've been looking at a lot of Top 100 lists recently but most of them are quite old at this point, done via vote or done in places that I don't consider to have knowledgeable posters. As such, i'm curious what number you'd give to these fighters all time. Doesn't have to be their exact position, just a general top 100, top 20, top 75 etc. A short explanation as to why you've given them their number and what could have been done to put them higher would be extra appreciated. Edit - Not an order ranking of these names relative to eachother, their rank individually on an all time list. Floyd Mayweather Manny Pacquiao Roy Jones Jr Thomas Hearns Marvin Hagler Oscar De La Hoya Evander Holyfield George Foreman Joe Frazier Rocky Marciano Larry Holmes Mike Tyson Lennox Lewis Wladmir Klitschko Vitali Klitschko
15 - Vitali Klitschko 14 - Wladimir Klitschko 13 - Mike Tyson 12 - George Foreman 11 - Lennox Lewis 10 - Larry Holmes 09 - Joe Frazier 08 - Oscar de La Hoya 07 - Rocky Marciano 06 - Evander Holyfield 05 - Tommy Hearns 04 - Marvin Hagler 03 - Roy Jones 02 - Manny Pacquiao 01 - Floyd Mayweather Something like that probably.
I'm surprised Roy Jones is so high and Wlad is so low. If you were to ranking these names not relative to eachother but their rank individually on an all time list, where would you place em? D'you think RJJ is top 20 all time for instance? D'you think Wlad even cracks the top 100?
1. Floyd Mayweather 2. Manny Pacquaio 3. Roy Jones 4. Thomas Hearns 5. Evander Holyfield 6. Larry Holmes 7. Marvin Hagler 8, Lennox Lewis 9. Wladimir Klitschko 10. Oscar De La Hoya 11. Rocky Marciano 12. George Foreman 13. Joe Fraizer 14. Mike Tyson 15. Vitali Klitschko
I have a fairly firm top 30 p4p all time list and a provisional top 50, the latter 20 places of which need more analysis before I'm happy with them. Of those fighters you list: 1) Mayweather - #18 2) Pacquiao - #19 3) RJJ - #28 4) Hagler - #32 5) Hearns - #41 None of the others are in my provisional top 50, though I could easily see Holyfield in there. The order of the others: 6) Holyfield 7/8) ODLH/Marciano is a pick em, imo (Rocky is my #5 at HW, just below Holmes & Lewis, but taking their respective sizes into account, I rank just higher from a p4p perspective). Then based on my Top 20 HW ordering 9) Holmes - #3 10) Lewis - #4 11) Wlad - #7 12) Tyson - #10 13) Foreman - #11 14) Frazier - #12 15) Vitali - #20
01 - Marvin Hagler 02 - Larry Holmes 03 - Thomas Hearns 04 - Roy Jones Jr. 05 - Evander Holyfield 06 - George Foreman 07 - Lennox Lewis 08 - Floyd Mayweather 09 - Manny Pacquiao 10 - Rocky Marciano 11 - Joe Frazier 12 - Oscar de La Hoya 13 - Wladimir Klitschko 14 - Mike Tyson 15 - Vitali Klitschko
Mayweather is the greatest of his generation, clearly, so he is number 1 out of those. Pacquiao and Roy are the clear number 2 and 3. After that, I rate Hagler the highest. Hearns and DLH are in the same level IMO. All the HWs are below these guys...to me.
1 Floyd Mayweather 2 Manny Pacquiao 3 Roy Jones Jr 4 Marvin Hagler 5 Thomas Hearns 6 Oscar De La Hoya 7 Evander Holyfield 8 Larry Holmes 9 Lennox Lewis 10 Wladimir Klitschko 11 George Foreman 12 Mike Tyson 13 Rocky Marciano 14 Joe Frazier 15 Vitali Klitschko
I agree with you i had all the Heavyweights below the non Heavyweights aswell, i think their resume is far superior overall.
To the Op - you are asking where each of the 15 rate individually in the top 100 all time and not in order relative to each other, correct?
Correct I tried to edit both my title and the opening text to make that clearer but it was to no avail
