Why don't you think he hit hard? Curious is all. I think a lot of 70's heavyweights are overrated. My Father and argue about this all the time. Recently, I have no comeback.
That aint no sh8t. Here is a guy that best fight and biggest moment in boxing was getting stopped by a old champ with one foot out the door and had no respect for him. Lewis said several times that he would fight Vitali for lunch and have his brother for dinner
Well, he couldn't put down Michael Bent who, and no disrespect here, already had pre-exisiting brain damage at the time. Herbie Hide didn't have trouble with that one. He landed so many clean shots against Mercer-nothing. Didn't even try to slug with Foreman. Ross Purity knocked him down twice- not the other way around. Struggled trading knock downs with china chinned Carl Willams and bum Joe Hipp. Other than Ruddock, its hard to name another significant knock out. And all of that was with the steroids.
Well, when RJJ is rated as the p4p #1 of all-time and Tyson as the #1 hw of all-time than these guys are overrated and that happens very very often around here.
Not even in h2h they are up there. Why? RJJ never proved himself against top quality fighters like the guys who are consensus top10/20 fighters and in the case of Tyson he even lost when he met other fighters of his caliber. Don´t get me wrong, both are great fighters, very entertaining and will be remembered as two of the best fighters from the mid-80s to the late 2000s but when you rank them that high you overrate them.
