Nothing profound, but I am not sure if anyone has pointed out that we have seen this before. Patterson ducked Machon, Foley and Cleveland Williams to fight Olympic medalist Peter Rademacher, who was making his pro debut but sellable because of the medal. What Fury is doing in ducking Usyk is essentially the same thing--just substitute a UFC champion for a gold medalist. Pretty disgraceful. I haven't been this outraged since...well...since Fury fought Chisora a third time a few months back. Rademacher put Patterson on his ass on the way to defeat. Let's at least hope Ngannou can defy the odds and do the same.
I know it won't happen, but I'm hoping Ngannou finds a way to win. It would embarrass Fury and the WBC for allowing their champion to openly mock their sport.
At least Patterson was active and fought Liston and Ali 2x. He also has other decent wins sprinkled throughout his career. Thing is chinny fighters like him tend to be matched a lot more carefully than others.
Patterson believed Cus knows what's best for him. When the country demanded him to face the de facto true champion Sonny Liston, he parted with D'Amato and did just that, facting one of the most terrifying forces in the history of the heavyweight division. Not to mention he later reinvented himself to start a second career, beating: George Chuvalo Eddie Machen Henry Cooper Oscar Bonavena As well as giving the young, extremely talented fighters in Jimmy Ellis and Jerry Quarry all the could handle, winning those fights according to some. Not to mention he got into the ring with Ali twice, pre and post-exile. Fury is nothing like the Patterson, who displayed courage, character, and integrity.
Patterson's resume is much stronger than Fury's, I get what Catch is saying, but Patterson post-cus didnt duck anyone. 10 ACTIVE years as a contender post title is insane longevity and activity.
