Because Lennox Lewis on his best day would smoke Fury and Joshua, although Fury would give him some problems at first. Lewis is overrated but Fury is even more overrated. Fury beat Wladimir which is a great win but Wladimir was practically 40 and had already been knocked out 3 times. Is it really THAT impressive ? To the point that you'd favor Fury over Lewis ? because you said that you would favor Fury over everyone in the 70s, I'd agree that he'd be favored over almost everyone due to his physical advantages and skill but Ali ? I dont know. It's been proven small mobile heavyweights can give him issues like Cunningham Fury beat 1 trick pony Wilder who has less boxing ability than Earnie Shavers and beat gatekeeper Chisora who is Bert Cooper tier. I don't understand the hype around Fury. Unless he beats Joshua by 2nd round KO or something i can't favor him over Lewis. Make no mistake Lewis is not Wladimir, Lewis fought aggressively against taller opponents and knew how to fight on the inside Here's an example: This content is protected
Lewis, and the main reason is punch accuracy. For all of Fury’s talent, it’s not his strongest point and, absent one punch power, leaves him in a sticky position against Lewis, who I believe would pick him off and stop him.
Lewis would struggle just like Wlad did although he does have his dark arts in the clinch that could open up a cut or two.
It’s always been obvious that Fury would stand little chance in a hypothetical fight between the two, but I still think I need to reassess this. Not only would Lewis’ superior accuracy tell, but he’d also bully Fury and stop him much earlier than I previously envisioned. I wouldn’t be surprised if it ended up being one of those Golota / Grant scenarios - Fury’s powers of recovery would not save him against a cold, accurate finisher like Lewis.
Lewis wouldn’t get chinned by a 37 year old novice. That much I can tell you. Emperor Fury has no clothes and is a fraud.
