I think the way Zhilei Zhang set up his KO punch against Joe Joyce in the rematch was absolutely brilliant. But surely there were even better examples of perfect set ups for KO punches in boxing history. Can you name here them (adding video would be highly appreciated)?
Srr vs Fullmer. He sets up the perfect left hook with a bodypunch and then a slight feint for a similair ounch only to land a devestating ko with the left hook. https://youtube.com/shorts/k3KDg96fG04?si=ogypnrgbeJvIVLZ9 Also Foreman's ko of Moorer. Whole break down is great to wat h but starts at 18:30 This content is protected And lastky Povetkin setting up Whyte for the perfect uppercut ko. This content is protected
Roberto Duran vs Ray Lampkin. Lampkin attempts a clinch, Duran prevents it with his forearms, blocks a body shot with his right hand, uses the block as leverage for a right handed uppercut, which frees Duran's arms, thus giving him space, and then lands a bone chilling left hook. This content is protected Jersey Joe Walcott vs Ezzard Charles. Walcott is walking him down squared up, with lowered hands, and with his chin exposed, to bait a jab from Charles, in order for him to slip it and then counter. Charles fell for it hook, line and sinker. This content is protected Sugar Ray Robinson vs Rocky Graziano. Robinson clinched, and then used the opportunity to set up a right handed uppercut, which was proceeded by a left hook. Graziano expected a right hand after the left hook, and positioned his guard as such and attempted to counter with a right hand of his own, but Robinson thought ahead and doubled on that left hook, which threw off Graziano's timing, and destroyed his guard, and then threw the fight ending right hand. In round 2 Mundine with a few feints before launching the right hand on Waters. He was practicing that on the mitts with his Dad when warming up in the locker room. This content is protected
Marquez setting up Pac was beautiful. And I’m talking about the earlier knockout(round3), not ktfo6. He was throwing those body shots and when he finally threw that overhand right, Manny bit hard.
I guess right before Marciano's KO punch of Walcott, in the first match, Rocco had managed to convince Jersey Joe that he was actually Italian.
Dmitry Pirog’s knockout of Daniel Jacobs must be high up on this list. The set up was absolutely phenomenal. First, he feints a left jab in an orthodox stance before he shifts forward into a southpaw stance while double feinting a right jab. Then he shifts back into an orthodox stance while again feinting with the left jab. Then he throws a real left jab to measure him and follows up with an arching right cross right on the chin with Jacob was trying to counter with his own right. Unbelievable sequence. Certainly not the best one (from technical point it was rather simple), but my favourite one: Rahman jabbing Lennox onto the ropes then knocking him out cold with a right hand.
Beat me to it, that was my first thought as well. To throw another golden era one in the mix... Leonard KO4 Dave Green: This content is protected Video should start at the 2:08 mark.
