Could Archie Moore Have Replicated The Cinderella Man?

Yes. Moore probably could have beaten him anyway

 

I think prime Archie Moore boxes Max's ears off and maybe stops him pretty much any time they step in a ring, with Baer only having the prototypical "puncher's chance." So there ain't no Cinderella to it ...

Yes. Of course it can. Even Archie would have a better chance than Cinderella. Another question is how prepared Max was, how motivated, and how seriously he took, or underestimated, Cinderella.

 

I think Moore would’ve outboxed Maxie pretty easily, however that power is always a threat. I can easily see Baer turning the tables with 1 right hand

 

Baer I think had the power to get Archie out of there.

 

If there is one thing Max Baer had, it was heavyweight power. I think there would be a very good chance that the best Max Baer against the best Archie Moore could result in a Max Baer knockout win. If we are going with the ill-prepared Max Baer who went in there against James Braddock vs. the very best version of Archie Moore, Then Archie has more of a chance to win, but I am still not certain Max would not get him at some point in the fight. Max Baer's power was legitimate, in my view.

 

Moore certainly had the skills to win a decision over Baer, especially the version who lost to Braddock. At the same time, Maxie would doubtless be more motivated and prepare more fully for the Mongoose. In talking about his victory over Baer, Tommy Loughran said "He never hit me - no wait - he hit me once, and it felt like he broke all my ribs!" So Baer was always dangerous and always one punch away from turning a losing effort around.

 

From what I remember seeing of Baer, most of his offense was from over the top. Moore was a crouching fighter with superb body movement who would probably have to really try in order to allow one of those ponderous shots to connect with him. I just can't see Baer landing much.

Moore fights him the way he fought Valdez. He's not going to box from outside the way one might expect the smaller man to, simply trying to avoid the bigger punches from a naturally larger man. He fought Valdez in a more intelligent way, which was to get off first and move in on him, then either flurrying his way out, or spinning his man, or clinching until he coiuld break away to repeat the cycle. But Valdez was mightily confused and could simply never get anything like a rhythm together and was soundly outpointed. That's exactly how a Baer fight goes. Too many brains for Baer to handle. Baer is going to expect a boxer/runner in front of him and is going to get a mouthful of Chicklets for his trouble.

 

Yeah, 15 rounds would be a long time to be in front of Baer.
