Over time we’ve done fish and beverages and Star Trek/Star Wars characters, vegetables and many more.

But we haven’t explored the palette of colors, nor the spectrum of boxers who were just that … at least by name.

So let’s give it a try and draw our own color line.

    For starters:

    Dave “Boy” Green

    Pinklon Thomas

    Al “Blue” Lewis

    Mitch “Blood” Green

    Danny “Little Red” Lopez

    Mike “The Giant” White

    Elmer “Violet” Ray

Nice list, but for the record I think Elmer Ray's true nickname back when was "Violent" not "Violet". I am particularly aware of this discrepancy because I made the same false assumption for over 20 years until I actually slowed down enough to re-read his name!

It may not officially be a color bur how about two-time Sean O'Grady knockout victim Simmie Black. Among Black's other 170 losses was a four round decision loss to future world champion Clarence "Bone" Adams in Adams' first career fight.

I saw Simmie Black fight live once back in the 1970s, I think in a four-rounder. He was a character — got the opponent’s head locked under his arm and then punched him behind the back. When the ref stepped in to warn him, he kept the guy’s head locked for a few seconds while he argued with the ref. Mostly a survivor but definitely more interesting than your average four-round fighter.

I understand he later got convicted on some kind of pedophilia charge or maybe it was child porn — something like that. So he can rot in hell if that’s the case.
