And the 80s were even better.

    The 70s were great too.

As were the 60's, 50's, and especially 40's.

The 50's was probably the weakest of those eras(though better than the 90's for sure). The 40's and 80's being the strongest. Started going downhill around the 90's, but even that looks like a golden era compared to nowadays.

Someone should do lists on the other eras.

WHAT A THREAD! :happy :happy :happy

It really bores me when people complain about the 90s, I am proud to be of this era, and proud of our great fighters and great fights. It's great to read someone else showing a similar affection for a brilliant and undeservedly maligned decade. :good

I was just a little hid in the 90's and I didnt start watching boxing until 99, but I've done alot of research and try my hardest to expand my knowledge of boxers from the 90's. I definetely think the 90's was a better era then this era. Much respect to all those great fighters in the 90's.

    Mine was around 1980

    fav division..welter...
had Cuevas and Palomino as champs.with Benitez, hearns, Leonard and Duran ranked top four:lol: WOW!

Aaron Pryor reigning as Junior Welter Champ....

    Holmes was prime....

Hagler just beat Minter to start his great reign....

Great battles and wars at Jr Lightweight with
Bazooka Limon, Bobby Chacon, Boza Edwards, Alexis Arguello

and what I think is maybe the greatest Lightheavyweight era...

Michael Spinks, Matthew Saad Mohammad, Dwight Braxton, Yaqui Lopez, Victor Galindez, Johnny Edwards, Marvin Pops Johnson, Eddie Gregory, James Scott, John Conteh, Mike Rossman....

    I loved that time.

Aside from the 40's/50's that general 70's/80's era would definitely be the best. Guys like Richie Kates, Pierre Fouri, and Eddie Davis deserve mention as well.

Wow I never seened Mankind post in the General Forum this is weird.

But in all seriousness as time goes by people will look back at the 90's with more fondness, the 90s was also for the most part the last time casual sports fans were deep into boxing.

Everything I say is an opinion. A few things I'm almost assure their factual, but almost all posts are opinions.

Same as you one of the reasons the 90's has such a strong infulence on me is because I am from this era and grew up as a teenager in the 90's.

And for me that is why I love boxing in the first place because of the 90's,

From watching the eccentric Chris Eubank.

To seeing the epic battle of Nigel Benn V Gerald McCllenan

To seeing Naseem Hamed clean out the featherweight division and go over to America to fight the likes of Kevin Kelly and Cesar Soto

Then you had the greatest boxer I have personally ever seen in a ring - Roy Jones Junior - destroying good fighters like Tony Thorton and Merqui Sosa and being the greatest Super Middleweight ever and moving up to Light Heavyweight and cleaning out that division too.

One of the most clear memories I have is that June Summer night watching the big undercard which included Erik Morlaes and then seeing Oscar De La Hoya becoming boxings new biggest star when he slashed up old time great Julio Cesar Chavez.

Holyfield and Tyson was a clash of the titans - both fights will go down in boxing history

One for all the right reasons - a great victory for underdog Holyfield

One for all the wrong reasons - why Mike Tyson is one of the most controvsial boxers to ever live.

An Amercian came to my British shores as well and impressed me alot - a young WBO Champion by the name of - Ronald "Winky" Wright

    he beat

    Ensley Bingham
    Steve Foster
    Adrain Dodson

all British fighters on British shores andhe did it with class - he became a favorite over here in Britain

there are many many other memories too

the most hyped fight I can remeber looking forawrd to was

    De La Hoya - Trinidad

but it failed to live up to the hype

Oscar didnt want to fight - simple as that - he just wanted to box and move
