If they fought back when GGG was willing to go down to 154 for Floyd, what round would GGG have stopped Floyd in?
Golovkin would not have stopped Floyd at 154, at best GGG surviving until the end would have been the miracle. Golovkin's best weight is 160 no lower or higher. He looked flabby at 168 and he would have been drained at 154.
i want to to jump in on the baitposting too. why do you guys think mayweather ducked amir khan? was he really so insecure about how to deal with that handspeed?
What round would Anthony Joshua have stopped Andre Ward in back when Ward was willing to go to heavyweight?
mayweather would have fought ultra defensive, on his bike, and is quicker than MWs, so it might have been difficult for Golovkin to get him out of there quickly if Golovkin fought at normal, fairly patient pace. In that case I think he'd land eventually due to his skill and variety and probably second half of the fight, maybe round 8+ he'd finally land the finishing blows. On the other hand if Golovkin came at him like the Brook fight, just walked through everything, mayweather could get trapped really early and smashed to pieces. Either way, it's a shame we didn't see that beat down. mayweather did say that Golovkin was easy work, but didn't quite have the courage to show that. As for Golovkin being drained at 154, I don't think it would make a huge difference. Golovkin is probably 5'9 tops and isn't a big MW. In fact Froch explained being surprised how small he was.
A better question is what round would SOG Ward have stopped GGG in? There's a reason GGG nevr moved north.
So I'm a big time GGG fan and I think this is a good post ^ Fact is GGG had not fought at 154 (that I know of) and I'm of the opinion that the weight cut would have had some rather large adverse effects. The outcome of this fight depends on how Golovkin handles the weight cut and rather less on how they match up stylistically. If we get zombie GGG because of the weight cut Floyd would embarrass him. If GGG handled the weight cut well then Floyd would have been in deep trouble.
GGG wasn't going to stop Floyd at 154. He wouldn't have the gas tank or reflexes to really pursue and pressure the defensive wizard due to the weight drain. Floyd was a fully polished cerebral slickster by the time GGG became relevant at the world level and would've made it to the final bell for sure win/lose/or draw. GGG has slow feet and has trouble cutting the ring off. I think Floyd would take his jab away and with it, much of Golovkin's confidence. If he can't get away with spamming jabs, he is reluctant to open up and slug as an alternative (Canelo truly exposed this).
