So going back, which fighter from the depths of history, could have whupped Big Daddy Bowes ass?

Think the first name that comes to mind is Joe Louis.
Bowes defence was hardly top notch, and that's bad against Joe.
He liked to fight in close, once again, bad for Riddick.

Shavers would clip him and probably early on at that assuming Bowe were to come into the fight with no knowledge of Shavers abilities. He'd walk right into Shavers right hand and by the time he realized the power of it, its too late. Shavers would stay ontop of him and given Bowes penchant to keep pushing forward instead of fighting off the backfoot when in trouble, he would get KO'ed before its all said and done.

That said Shavers didn't have the best chin and his defense is probably less than Bowes so Bowe might get him early too. This could go either way haha.

Big punchers or slick fighters would be troublesome for him.

I know this may sound crazy but I could see Tunney's movement troubling Bowe.

Bowe was really good at smashing up small or light hitting guys. Earliest guy I think might have a shot is Dempsey. JD proved against Jess Willard that he has the power to shake up even the biggest tough guys. But I'm not sure that he's going to last if Bowe gets past the early hurricane and I think he probably will. He's a much better fighter than Willard.

Joe Louis has a good chance, Bowe could be reckless defensively, and if Louis lands on Godzilla consistently, he'd probably drop it. So Bowe's defensive recklessness could bite him in the ass big time against Louis.
Earlier than Louis, possibly Tunney, but he'd need to be on his toes and at his slickess to pull it off.
Anyone else Bowe simply overwhelms with his size and offensive skills.
Really no one else I see beating him prior to the 1940's.
A little perspective" The Galveston Giant" J.Johnson was 6' tall and 190-200 lbs, Reddick Bowe was 6'5" and fought between 235- 260lbs
The Galveston Giant would be dwarfed by Bowe.
The 1960's , and up quite a few had the skills and size to handle him.

Some of the bare knuckle champions, would have had a chance under their own rule set.

Is Jack Johnson far back enough for you?

Going way back, I'd give The Ciudad Strong Boy, John L. Sulaiman, a good shot at getting Bowe outta there.
