Lets see, those who didnt give their opponents credit or gave excuses even after winning. I'll start with Jeff Chandler. A couple of fights at least, he dismissed opponents after winning. Now, its your turn and I hope you don't dismiss me, I am, after all, doing my best!!
I think a lot of the Trash Talk RJJ 'schtick' which permeates modern Boxing, sadly Ali might be to blame... anyway the arrogance of the last 50 years is all over the Sport. Dickhead Broner for a start!
Mike Tyson was a mixed bag, he could actually praise people he beat and he was very respectful toward s Lennox after losing.
William Joppy, beat a 47 year old Duran and acted like he'd just beaten Roberto in the brawl in Montreal ,Pathetic
Lennox Lewis always seemed reluctant to praise an opponent. Im my opinion it shows a deficiency in character.
Well Mr Duran was allegedly not averse to making crass comments post fight: Duran reportedly said to the media after he KO'd Ray Lampkin, who was hospitalized after the bout. “Today, I sent him to the hospital, Next time, I’ll put him in the morgue.” Also after beating Davey Moore with not all legal methods Duran is supposed to have looked at Moore’s swollen face and told him, “The next time, I’ll kill you". We want nice media friendly comments postfight from victors, who had just been facing another fit strong guy who was intent to part them from consciousness, and this in tandem with most boxers having not been on their schools debating team or such, results in comments that are not a nicey nicey
Froch immediately comes to mind. Leonard should have given Hagler a rematch, especially if he was just going to go out like any other washed up fighter in the 90s anyway.
That was especially evident in his final fight with Vitali K. After the war they put on, all Lewis wanted to talk about was himself and Larry Merchant and he got arguing because, as Larry put it, “Lennox, it just doesn’t seem like you want to give him any credit at all.”
Though the decision hadn’t yet been announced, Duran clearly though he beat Leonard in Montreal. He ran around with arms raised which is fine, but he refused Ray’s post fight hug/handshake and when he saw Ray raising his own arms after the final bell, he shoved Leonard in the back for displaying his own “temerity”. Lol There was also a still seething Roberto’s classic crotch grabbing post fight...toward the reporters and spectators. The dude was on max. overdrive during and after the fight. Such a mellow and friendly little man these days...you wouldn’t guess he was capable of such antics if you hadn’t seen them many years prior.
Yeah I was coming here to say that. He seem to never ever talk well about any of his opponents. And in losses too, how he behaved after the Kostya fight was a bad look. I find this so odd, if I was a fighter I would say my opponents were the best ever, otherwise I am criticizing myself for ****s sake... makes no ****ing sense.
Sergey Kovalev after the second Jean Pascal fight.Kovalev admitted he was trying to punish Pascal instead of knocking him out when he had the chance.Fernando Vargas was full of excuses after beating Winky Wright who was the best fighter he ever beat.
