GGG was closer to his prime than Canelo was in the first fight. GGG had been at middleweight for years and was still viewed as the best middleweight in the world and by some even the best pound for pound fighter in the world Canelo was still green at the division and didn't reach his prime until super middleweight. When people say that was prime Canelo I don't get how
What I will say is that Golovkin was relatively fresh for his age he hadn't took much punishment nor been in any wars.
Legit one of the dumbest takes ive seen on the board, which is saying a lot. And this isn't even a troll post which makes it so mind shattering
Canelo alvarez entered his prime in the cotto fight and is leaving it now if not a year ago. His peak was probably from 2017/18-2021
So Canelo was still green at middleweight didn't reach his prime until super middleweight but he's past it now in the eyes of most? This makes no sense. For me this was Canelo slap bang in his prime, if you look at the slips, feighnts and rolls he had back then to now definitely looked a bit better back then.
Golovkin was freaking 35 years old when he fought Canelo who was 8 years younger. Hagler was retired at 32. Let that sink in. If you actually go through Golovkin;s career from the amateur days, you will see that his handspeed dropped off a lot over the years. And if there's one thing you want against Canelo it is handspeed to deal with his excellent defence. There's no way GGG was prime ffs.
I'd agree. Canelo has fallen in love with his power trying to throw single big shots mostly over the explosive combination punching he used back then.
My unpopular opinion was I don't care for either fighter both inflated sense of their abilities and worth. Both effectively bums in my opinion. Didn't watch either of the fights live. I did eventually watch both fights as an unbiased viewer and it's clear GGG won the first and Canelo won the 2nd and the 3rd was a money grab sparring session the moment it got signed.
Everybody knows prime canelo was His run at Super middleweight undisputed from Danny Jacobs - through Billy Joe to plant fight.
