I don't understand why Mayweather promotions Leonard Ellerbe / Al Haymon have to be so difficult to negotiate with. Tank would knock Haney's block off just get it done.
The problem with both Tank and Garcia is they actually think they're the A Side, and they have fans who try to justify it and say they are. So they approach actual world champions and offer them the short split, and then cry when they can't get the fights they want.
Tim Ta-zoo would beat them both at the same time on an hours sleep in 4 days no food no water. Blind folded. Fact. On a serious note I doubt this fight happens. Would love it though. I give Garcia a shot he boxes well and won't get deterred. Tank has that K.O Power hence why KingRy got knocked the **** out. Rehydration cause could be a mofo though. Go The King of Speed!
Tank probably wanted to put rehydration stipulations on Haney so he isn't in with a Super Middle weight come fight night.
Or... The problem is they know they have fans that'll defend them as the A-side whether they are or not. So they're able to approach real champions and offer them the short split - then celebrate that the fights don't happen... so they can fight a much less risky bum for good money and their fans will claim they're the ones being ducked. It's nothing new, really.
On one level that's completely reasonable, given how we all know just how insanely inflated Haney is by fight night. On the other hand... There's probably a limited amount of time left that Haney can make weight anywhere near Tank - so Tank needs to make that fight fairly soon, if he actually wants it... Which he probably doesn't, but won't admit that it's because he doesn't fancy his chances with someone who's bigger than him. Besides, even with a 20lbs weight advantage, Haney is still pillowfisted and therefore not a danger to Tanks health regardless of what he rehydrates up to... Which is why it's obvious what it's about - protecting that 0. Either drain the man down so your punches do more damage and you don't have to fight the best version of him, or run to avoid the risk of getting outpointed and getting a loss on the record.
Tanks just about making money. Hustling every dollar he can get long term. Its shrewd career risk management but the Mayweather's fanbase ate it up back in the day Tanks supporters will do the same.

They shouldn't even be going for the bigger split. They can try 50/50 on the basis they have drawing power, but ultimately they're unproven fighters going up against world champions.
