Who had the most perfect textbook Left Hook after all ?

Donaire is a very good mention. Absolutely lethal left hook.

 

I don’t know myself but I like all the answers thus far provided. They all had excellent left hooks

 

How about Captain hook himself? Nothing textbook about it though.

I feel like there are many good answers already.

I think part of identifying the perfect textbook hook is that fighters may have a perfect hook for the way they are using it and the range they are fighting at.

Floyd Patterson coming in behind in from a longer range, Arguello being lanky and using a tight hook in mid range, or Dempsey using in conjunction with his infighting and weaving motions. All could be considered 'textbook' for their given situations.

Anyway, just to add another name to the mix, I liked Julio Cesar Chavez Sr's use of a range of different hooks.

 

Absolutely mate. Arguello's is probably a touch more methodical but it's also a little stiffer in it's execution if that makes sense. Foster is more willing to roll the dice even if not in perfect position or a bit off balance. Foster can sacrifice a little technical perfection at times but with that comes its own reward.

 

Cooney, Ward and Esteban DeJesus, who is also mentioned in this thread, were all trained at some point in their careers by Victor Valle.

He also trained Alfredo Escalera and Billy Costello, among others.

I think a good case can be made that Valle taught the left hook better than any trainer in history.

 

I'd rate Robinson's left hook as the best ever. He wouldn't just throw one, he could throw three, or four in succession, fast. Two to the body then he'd bring it upstairs and the last one would be right on the button as the finisher. I've never seen any other fighter do it like he did, (actually, I did see Cerdan do it but no one else that I can recall).

Many rate Frazier's hook as the best, not sure why. He had a single hook.

I always found SRL's to be textbook. He could whip that hook. But with his complete arsenal it didn't stand out as much.

 

Well, according to Gil Clancy, every Mexican is born throwing a left hook, so the winner should be a Mexican.
