Mayweather fought Judah immediately after Judah lost. Ali fought Lyle after Lyle lost to Young. Should Joshua just fight Wilder anyways? It's not like there's a mandatory he has to take or fight Parker
He might fancy it, but he'd want a bigger cut given Wilder's shrunk how much it'd sell. Besides, I don't think Wilder takes it now - he wouldn't want it for less money and he'd know he'd get hurt... Unlike Fury and Parker, Joshua does possess percussive power in multiple punches and the skills to set it up - Wilder knows it and won't want to risk it.
The funny thing is they ruined their own money fight. And what's even funnier is that because Hearn and Joshua are cowards and wouldn't fight Wilder now, they lost the chance to beat this version of Wilder. This was their best chance for a long time because Wilder is now old and inactive and they had a good chance of winning compared to years ago. Parker went in there expected to lose and got the glory. Joshua is clearly one of the most cowardly SHW's the sport has ever seen. His fans are just utter fools.
He'll need a "Plan B" for that. We all know the IBF belt will get tossed by the winner of Fury v. Usyk but nobody would be surprised if Fury pulls out and delays the fight again.
The fight can be made but it is not a big money fight anymore. I don't understand how people are saying it is the biggest money fight. Wilder is 1-3 in his last 4. In the lost he had 2 brutal KO. Now he is coming of a 12 rnd fight were he won maybe 1 rnd and that is being very generous. You aren't going to sell this fight to the casual. The other big hurdle is the very high risk and low reward to Joshua now. Beating Wilder doesn't do anything. He has been stopped twice so even if Joshua stops him people will say damage goods. If he outbox Wilder big deal. He's been outbox. There is no upside to fighting Wilder. Money no longer what it was and no legacy in beating him. So what does Joshua gain from this fight?
It's really unlikely Wilder can beat AJ and it's likely to be a stoppage loss for him if he tries. But the list of former HW champs who took fights later in their career that they should not have...is a long one. Wilder could fight Jermaine Franklin in the meantime. AJ didn't stop Franklin and if Wilder does - that wins him back a bit of leverage. Frankly, I think Wilder should retire. He's milked his career beyond all reason and expectation already.
The money could probably still be very good if Wilder fights Franklin and stops him (AJ did not). There's also the remote possibility that Fury produces a miracle and succeeds in beating Usyk (author's note: don't count on it). Both would ratchet Wilder's reputation back up. Also there are a lot of Americans still desperately clinging to Wilder because there's no USA prospect right now who can obviously replace him.
Eh, a bit of the luster is lost, but I'd still like to see it, if only so we can say it happened. Course he's clearly past his best now, so there will always be a debate about how it would have gone down had it happened earlier.
With Wilder's lack of fighting that would be a year or more from now? Wich will now push him 39 or 40.
