George Foreman's fight against Alex Stewart started off pretty much as expected. Then, just when we thought we were witnessing the end of Stewart's career, he comes roaring back and gives Foreman a really hard fight. The injury Foreman suffered was freakish, and I think a lot of referees would have stopped the fight around the ninth round. For those who want to see the fight online, here's a link to my Daily Motion channel:

One of the most grotesquely swollen faces you’ll ever see.

Apparently the swelling was exacerbated by George having a pre-existing sinus issue or something like that - bottom line was the the fluid building it up wasn’t draining as it might ordinarily would have.

I was really worried for Foreman in that fight - a very courageous and driven man.

Will watch later, but was George lucky to get the nod in this one?

Same here pug. George was taking some massive shots from Stewart in there.
But he clung on where a lot would have said Screw this!

Quite a few though Alex should have won. It was a close battle.

That was a rough fight for George no doubt. I'm not so sure it was a harder fight than his fight with Lyle was in the 70's but I remember him getting pretty busted up against Stewart who was a good fighter. A few years later, Axel Shulz would push him to the edge in a fight that most thought he lost. George always showed a champions heart even on nights where his power wasn't enough.

I’ve never wanted to watch this one again. Something inside George’s face — ilke maybe his sinus cavity — broke and you can see him swell up and actually hear sloshing when he gets hit from whatever inside his face is moving around on the impact.

    Ugh.

I would say George showed plenty of true grit in the Lyle fight so him having heart isn’t really a new thing at this point. He also waded through Evander teeing off for like 27 unanswered punches and kept looking to land the big one.

If it was an even fight (and it ended up being close to being one) those early knockdowns sealed it for George.
