Why did Tapales not beat the count?

Finally got around to watching the Inoue fight and I was surprised by the stoppage. It didn't look like Tapales was hurt that bad. One cross hits him in the hand, hand bounces back, hits him (so largely blocked) and then another cross seems to break through the guard or land cleanly (hard to see from the replay angle) and then there's a delayed reaction as you sometimes see from a body punch.

Tapales goes down, doesn't seem to be particularly badly hurt, yet this guy who fought like a warrior all throughout the fight doesn't try to beat the count. What happened? Was there an injury? Jaw, eye socket...?

 

He was ****ed up. Inoue has that crazy power that keeps you down for the count.

 

After the fight was over he kept pointing to his temple multiple times to his team members who came into the ring while explaining

The most likely reason is that he didn't see it coming (Inoue landed a left jab before while bringing the right straight) & it hit the temple which can mess up a fighter's equilibrium

Also you weren't the only one surprised, even Inoue mentioned in the post fight interview that Tapales kept a good poker face & he didn't realize he was done

Based on the fact that he kept tapping his temple to his team members, I think that's what did him in because hits to the temple can discombobulate you especially if you don't see them coming

If he has given any interviews in Tagalog explaining, any Filipino posters here can share

 

Tapales has been dropped and ktfo a few times.He was valaint but you know Inoue fought a guy that has been stopped and is not as durable people here say.Indeed i was surprised it went that long fo sure.

 

Thanks for posting that new angle. It was ridiculously frustrating watching on the night, as they cut the bad-angle replay to the interviews, and never showed anything of the knockout again. I rewound the feed, but the angle was so bad, this was the first time I actually saw that it split his guard and landed.

 

Damage accumulation, Inoue is very strong for his size. The boxers down at those weights arent used to seeing that type of power.

Tapales took a beating and went out on his shield. Not great for long term health but great for boxing aficionados.

 

His equilibrium had gone, quite common with temple shots.

 

Man i felt bad for him there you could see that the punch really hurt & stunned him, i hope he trains & learns new tactics & strategies if he still has the time in the gym & come back stronger, even though they are both around the same age Tapales just looks way older & weathered in comparison to Inoue.

 

It initially looked like more of a mental capitulation. When Tapales tried to use his legs you could tell he'd been scrambled.

 

Why would he not get up after taking multiple punches from one of the hardest hitters in the sport? I just don't understand, he must be a wimp.
