Can't fight on the outside and struggles to close distance. I know MMA isn't boxing but not sure what makes Regis think he will fare well in MMA.
There's been a lot of boxers who have said things like this, but very few of them have done this until well after their boxing career was over. Even if a world class boxer was genuinely interested in trying mma, the lack of monetary incentive would prevent them from doing it. The monopoly-esque pay structure in mma is probably the main factor that has limited the sport's growth after its initial explosions. It's not that you can't make money in it, but you either have to be extremely marketable as a personality or undeniably great as a fighter to get life changing money. And even then, it's no where near what it should be based on what they brought in for the company. For example, I think Georges St Pierre didn't sign his first million dollar per fight contract until the Jon Fitch fight or something crazy like that. Francis was right to leave when he could. This is the double edged sword with the UFC. We all love the fact that the best consistently fight the best which has become an increasing rarity in modern boxing. But the kind of stranglehold that the company has over the distribution of profits discourages many high level athletes from taking part. I don't see that changing anytime soon, either.
There are MMA fighters that strike better than Prograis did v Haney and they would destroy him with leg kicks don`t know who`s advising him.
