Jack Johnson. The man has everything. Child of former slaves, apparently fought while blindfolded in battle royals, beat every other significant black contender, chased the white champ around the world, the search for the great white hope, the Jeffries beating with the former champs watching at ringside, the race riots afterwards, sleeping with white women and violating the mann act etc. It's the most Oscar bait movie of all time.

I think Jeffries and Sullivan have great, complex stories to tell. Their stories would be better represented in a drama\tragedy rather than a classical setting though, under a director like Kubrick or prime Scorcese would've been the most interesting IMO.

He would be an awful choice, he’s a tiny underweight man who looks nothing like him.

I think Sam Langford or one of the real old timers - the distance has almost mystified them, it wouldn’t be like creating a film for Lennox Lewis it’d be artistic.

    This is the obvious call.

With the right production values, it could be a masterpiece.

Sam L Jackson is 6 2, he is taller than the real Jack Johnson and weights more than Johnson. Shave his head and they look a like more than anyone I can think about, Jackson has the same sarcastic smile. The only problem would be age.

I think that it would be best to give an unknown actor a chance, then you might get something truly special.

They would need a young and a old one to do that switch eras like back and forth.

Now here is the hard part.

You would start the film making teh audience overwhelmingly sympathetic to Johnson.

Then after he beat Jeffries, you woudl have to roll that back quickly.

I didn’t mean short, no. He’s tiny, he’s built like a daddy long legs spider. He’s also old.

Griffith the best of the 60s and the best boxer since Jose Napoles. Emile wanted Wesley Snipes to play him in a film.

It would almost too much for a movie. A series could be better, but they would want to add fiction in there.
